Mobil1 makes an even better quality alternative. Autozone stocks them.

boost or restrict? its smaller and they just don't built them as quality.. even new s2000 filter has less metal.

The newer ones are made by Fram and the filter element inside sucks donkey bawls. Mobil1 filters are nice, and HAMP is ok too.

S2000 filters are beleived to be indentical to HAMP filters, as both are made by Toyo Roki, and both have been cut open and compared. On another subject, werent the HAMP line of products created to provide an alternative to expensive OEM honda parts. I remember reading that of some honda website from asia. Also, ive never seen any cars from japan, let alone racing cars use HAMP filters. Any input on this?

I agree, but one thing I didn't like about these filters. The OEM replacement size, has a regular sized canister, but I've seen cutouts of the filter media and there really isn't much there (compared to size of canister). I went 1 size up keeping same gasket size and found that it is longer, but the car didn't seem to like that one (very noisy on startup). I also couldn't get the gasket to seal well. Do you guys notice that with non-OEM filter, the gasket is a thin super-hard rubber whereas the factory one is wider and 'softer'?

You can't go wrong with the K&N filters...they filter extremely well, and don't suffer the pressure drop the Mobil1's do (although the M1's filter well).

I've got some old school Honda one here if you want them.

Tweak - who still uses Mobil1 + nice filter even though his Spoon drain plug shows the impending doom all too clearly.

I agree. I think the K&N filter is a good comprimise, with its good flow and good filtration (~ 20 microns). The Mobil1 is also a good filter and has great filtration because of its 3 layers of media.

Btw, both K&N and Mobil 1 filters are made by Champion Labs, who also makes STP and Supertech filters.

As stated above, Napa Gold filters (made by Wix) are also very fine filters.

If I were to pick a low cost filter, I would pick Walmart's Supertech filter ($1.97) because of its similar design to higher priced Champion filters.

For a mid priced filter I'd pick Napa Golds ($6) and for higher priced filters I'd pick K&N filters ($10).

i just have a question about the old filters....whats the hype? i remember when people started using the b20 and k20 filters saying it makes pressure higher then the old filter, thats true of course because its a smaller filter, but you would need to change your oil often no?

The new filters do their job well. They're of a better construction than your average run of the mill wal-mart HAMP filters. Unless you're tracking your car on a regular basis, just stick w/ OEM and change every 3,000.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with you. The new filters are Frams and have their cardboard endcaps and questionable bypass valve. If you can try getting the older Filtechs or Toyo Rokis. But if you can't, the Champion Labs (M1, K&N, ST) or Wix's (Napa Gold) are fine substitutes.
