Default civic transmission compatibilty

Will a 2000 civic si 5-spd/differential bolt up to a 1989 civic si. Both are 1.6 motors.

No, the 200 CIvic Si, although a 1.6, is also a DOHC B series engine....

The 88-91 Civic/CRX Si engine is a D16a6, and the parts are not interchangeable between these two engines.........

I road race my 89 civic and am looking for better gearing. Trying to save myself some money by doing this, rather than spending $1100.00 on a ring and pinion! Any ideas? Thanks.

!1100!? ****. If your looking for wider gearing, try to find a tranny from a DX or HF. If your looking for closer gearing which i assume, the only thing closer would be a ZC tranny which can be had for a few hundred dollars tops. In this case, i think maybe you should just stick with your stock si trans and do some power mods instead. Get a used sohc cam for cheap.

doesnt the zc have wider 1-5 gears and a closer final drive?
if you want wider gears put in the zc 1-5 if you want closer put in the zc final drive.
btw what do you mean by better?
these gears are about as close as they get for a factory can and the 2000 Si has wider gears even i believe.

my goal is to install a final drive with a lower gear (higher numerical) Was hoping the 2000 si trans fit because it is a 4.40 final.
Not concerned with 1 thru 5. Engine has already been modified as much as class allows. Will also be installing an LSD
to improve acceleration off the corners. Last resort is to purchase a 4.73 final from aftermarket, at $1050.00 ! Thanks for your input.
