Default Got in a small accident, need a little advice. (long)

It was a Friday night, I was just returning from a race to pick up my friend from his work. I parked, we go in, and the car I raced against followed shortly. We all chilled inside, but the other guy left just a minute before me. He decided to show off in front of the two girls at my friend's work (and some others) by burning out and looping through the parking lot. I was parked next to a van, so when I began to pull out I didn't see him until last minute, cut my wheel, and barely avoided him. Just as my friend says "Damn that would've sucked if we hit him huh?" I continued to reverse and hit his boss's truck. Now I have a cracked tail light and minor damage to the panel, and my friend's boss won't right it off on insurance if I replace or fix the bumper. So that's the story.

Cliff Notes: Leaving my friend's work, almost got hit by a showoff, became disorientated and accidentally backed into my friend's boss's truck and now have to fix or replace the bumper.

What I need to know is should I replace the bumper completely, or take it to a body shop to see if they can fix it. I apologize that I don't have pics yet, but my internet at home is down until Friday. I will get them up ASAP. The dent is on one side, and I'd say about an inch (?) deep. TIA.

Also, if anybody knows any good places to either buy a bumper or get it fixed close to Las Vegas please let me know.

Ok, so you damaged your bumper or your friend's boss' bumper? Either way, if it's a polyurathane fascia, then it can be repaired, just depends on the severity of the damage. It sounds like you just scratched it up a little, and maybe even pushed in a corner? Just as long as it's not all torn up, it can be fixed, and if you've got a decent body man then you won't even notice it had happened.

Good luck, and remember to look before you reverse

Yea talk about a way to learn, almost gettin hit kinda dazed me.

As far as the bumper, I'm not worried about mine, more worried about replacing the truck one. Sorry for not being clearer. It is a 1998 Dodge Ram Quad Cab, the bumper is metal (chrome) with a black plastic lip. Just like your everyday truck bumper. I need to find the cheapest way to replace and or fix it. I'm only a Junior in High School, so the money's important. Thanks.

****, i think i've backed my truck into so many walls and stumps, but never bent or dented it. the plastic lip can be replaced quite easily, it pops off from underneath. also, truck bumpers can be found in any junkyard. the ram bumper was the same from 94-02. they are quite plentiful.

he shouldn't fix the truck bumper, that way people might think he uses his truck properly. its a battle scar.

I wish... that would make things a lot easier. I am working on pics, the house will have cable on Friday, so I can get them up from my home computer. Good to hear they are all the same from 94-02, time to make some phone calls.

smashed a panel and the tail light. It doesn't look that bad, but it doesn't look like fun to fix. Like I said before, pics up by this weekend.

Thanks for the quick replies! I'm hopin to get this easily taken care of...

the panel below the taillights comes out pretty easy, as do the taillights. maybe a two hour job without painting.

That's good to hear. I had a feeling it'd be easy to replace the tail lights, but I wasn't sure about that panel. I've never done body work before, as I'm new to my car, but this will do nothing but help me learn. My dad suggested replacing the panel on my car as well, but I'm still debating that...
