I think the just took his stock intake arm off the resonator box and turned it so it now sucks air from around the axle/tie rod area.

look at the pic again, looks funny. so the filter is on top of the throttlebody?

yup, removed the resonator box
cut the arm down a bit
and zip tied it to the motor mount, so it doesn't move around

here is a before shot

I had this done on mine fo r a little while and did notice a small difference, mainly throttle response was a little better.
