Really hard for me to go into 1st when rolling at all?
Its really hard for me to go into first gear even when im going like 2 miles per hour. When im completely stopped its fine. I have a b16 tranny and act 3 puck clutch in my 95 gsr. Anyone have any ideas?
I have stalled the car a few times but i dont think it would really do anything like this... i have been told its normal... duno

same thing happens to me..i think its normal, ive heard there is s shift block when your moving , for first gear.

i never heard of a block on first gear... when i try to go into first i always go into second gear first with the clutch down then push it up to first gear... sometime i have to give it a little rev for it to go in

because it sounds weird when you go into second at such low rpms/mph. Is it bad to shift into 1st when you are moving at all? My friend says his car does it with no problem (nscivic on the boards, he has a 94 civic with a b18c1 and a si tranny, basically same setup as me)

I wouldnt advise it. 1st gear is meant to get the car rolling, and you should shift immediately after the car is rolling unless you're racing of course. at least that is what I think

this is how i see it:
if you're having a tuff time gettin it into 1st while rolling, that means the car is telling you to put it into a higher gear, say 2nd gear.
...dont force it in, you could f*ck things up.

true .. although while rolling to a corner i can put it in first then take off around the corner ... better than going to 2nd but thats not good for daily driving of course .. like they say dont force it
sorry .. also when downshifting through gears to come to a quicker stop NEVER go all the way down to 1st .. stop at 2nd and u can brake from there. I like to rev match through the gears it saves the clutch/tranny ive been told
rev match engine speed to rolling speed for that gear, it'll slip right in. the reason it wont go in is because of syncronization process. the syncro's blocker ring is trying to get the 1st speed drive gear to match input shaft speed while this drive gear is moving at output shaft speed, its an easy way for it to work while upshifting, but downshifting is tougher on the syncro. thats why it makes it a crap load easier to help the syncro's job out by rev matching engine speed to rolling speed of car. just give the throttle a little blirp and it'll slip in. this is also the trick when shifting w/o using the clutch, like if you loose hydraulic pressure and you can't dis-engage the clutch... i had to do that once, it sucked.
down shifting is abuse that a manual trans is built from the factory to take, if its grinding gears when you try to do it... dont do it, you'll burn up clutching teath on the drive gears and you'll smoke blocker rings on the syncro, not to mention the clutching teeth and and syncronizer sleeve itself might naw up the shift fork.
and dont shift like a maniac, you dont need to ram the shifter everywhere, even while racing. let the syncro do what its made to do, sometimes it takes a few milliseconds to do this, so allow it to.
thats my .02

beneficial in auto-x... where 4cylinder cars seem to bog if left in 2nd.

amen to that... yeah if you match rev it, it'll slide in like butter... besides mike, why do you want to go in 1st while rolling?

Like it was mentioned before, you can simply blip the throttle while giving the shifter a little pressure towards first gear. When the speed of the motor is just right in relation to the speed of the car, you'll feel the "wall" start to give in and it will allow you to slip it into 1st gear. Just don't force it! Feel it out if you have to, but pushing hard against something that doesn't want to budge will make things bad
i kinda downshift to first all the time... like when im comeing up to a red light that i know is going to change green and im only going a few mph, i'll put it in first rather then 2nd... cant stand how slow and long it takes to get the car up to speed in 2nd gear when going that slow... i also do that when i roll through stop signs too... surprised more people dont do that

take your corners faster, damn 1st gear is slow
pop it in second

the same **** happens to me , i tihnk it is some saftey feature so u dont shift into 1st at high rpms.....but i mean its annoying b/c lets say im comming to a stop sign and i kno i have to put it in 1st anyway i have to come to a complete stop b4 i can even put it in first
