Clunking noise when turning...LSD?
no it's not my axles/CV joints...
Just swapped in my engine, B16A w/ LSD into a 1989 CRX Si.
when I turning the clunking is pretty bad, even makes my steering wheel go crazy..
and this only happens when I'm turning and on the gas, if my clutch is depressed, nothing happens... my friend told me it was some special LSD fluid additive, well, I bought it put it in, but still the problem persists.... any help..?

no it's not my axles, they are new, and yes I do have LSD, just installed the engine... and the clunking noise/feel is much more than your average CV/axle problem, I've had that before.... anyone know..?
it sounds like you might have damaged the cv joint/axle during the installation process.
if you pull on the axle the wrong way you can knock the peices out of place, if you have ever taken a boot off you will know what i mean.
when i did my swap i buggered up my axles so i had to take them back and get another set.

Do you have a clutch style LSD? I have a Kaaz LSD in my car, and it sounds just like that. This is normal.
You can use a 80-90w gear oil with a LSD additive, thats about all you can do. Its something you have to learn to live with.

Are you sure you have the right midshaft?? My friend had the wrong midshaft in his car and when he would turn it would make a clunking noise. We changed his midshaft and it was perfect. I would make sure you have the right midshaft. You say its not the axles so I can almost garuntee you that you have the wrong midshaft. Try that.
I am almost positive thats what it is. When my friend would give it gas around a turn it would do it but only if gas was applied. There is no doubt in my mind that its your midshaft.
I was running a Y1 non-lsd tranny with a bad axle, when my tranny went out I picked up a Y1 w/lsd and replaced the axle with a new one. Now I have the same problem, vibrating/clunking type noise mainly on first and a little onto 2nd gear when applying torque on the lower part of the rpm band below 2500 rpm...noise goes away as I pass that rpm and shift into higher gears. Friend has same problem, but he has no LSD.
I know its not my mid shaft or my axels. I was just running on an s1 tranny and it was just fine. But with this y1 LSD it feels like im running over speed bumps if the clutch is out as im turnning. But if i have the clutch in its fine.
yea, i am bringing this one back. This sounds like my same exact problem. Clunking when turnign the wheel in either direction. Replaced the trans cause the diff was definitely ruined. now a Quaife is installed and the same problem persists.
Swapped out the passenger axle with a known good axle (used in my old setup) and the same thing. I'll try the halfshaft tomorrow i guess...
This setup ran great until the differential went, now this clunking won't go away

ITS FINE!!!!!!!! its your tranny. thats how factory honda LSD works. if your going over 20 mph it will not clunk when u turn. i have had 2 cable xsi tranys that have done that. and its not a problem when u actually are driving the car hard. example. auto cross or road coursing. ill give u 300 for it if u wanna sell it . ha
no, it's not fine. when it did it the first time the differential was blown, so you can give me $300 for a busted trans sure. and when i replaced it i used an AFTERMARKET QUAIFE LSD. Which i have used in one of my past transmissions and did not have this problem at all, thanks for your inexperience.
ha alright! just keep buying new parts then. for your trans thats fine. thats how SOME lsd's work. kinda like how a Detroit locker works.. then there is the clutch type lsd that doesnt clunk.
had the same prob with mine, but it wasnt an lsd, just a stock s1 non lsd. EVERYONE on the net said it was axles after 3 pages of me repeating that i knew for a FACT that it wasnt. haha. but ya, got a new tranny and sold the other one to a guy for a rebuild. mine wasnt lsd but it was locking up anyway for some reason... never bothered to figure it out since i had a spare s1 in my shed.
I'm having a similar problem. Anyone who says u should live with it should drive it for a day. I didn't try the midshaft so i might take that into consideration. And i agree its def not the axels or joints. Do us all of favor and bring it to an expert and let us know if they fix it and what it is cause other than swapping out the midshaft im out of answers
