F1 Challenge 99-02' racing game- anyone play?
Well, I remember a few years back there was a forum on here devoted to CART, F1, etc. I was looking to post this there, but realized its gone!
I know this is kinda O/T but does anyone play EA sports F1 challenge?? I want to race people, and dont want to have to wait for the damn sanctioned races by online F1 wannabees (sorry, but they get a little too crazy)... Does anyone have the game and know how to play against eachother? PM me, or reply, and if you know how (i know there is an on-line option- im jsut bad with PC games) i would love to take a few laps with yah at the Australian open. Jordan Honda!

I'm assuming it will play close to the other two EA F1 games I have.(F1 2000 and F1 2000 Championship Edition). So far, all the PS2 F1 games I've played suck. (both EA F1 2000 versions and 989 Sports' F1 game). The only good thing I can say about my games is that they only cost me $9.99 used at Gamestop.
So far, the best home F1 game I've played is the original "Formula 1" published in 1995 by Psygnosis for the Playstation. It's based on the 1995 season and was developed by Bizarre Creations (of Project Gotham Racing on Xbox).

I have heard of this game as well, download all types of cars, race online, at real tracks that people have GPS'd. Im very interested too, talked to Jim Danials about it at the ARRC, sounds sweet as hell
I have the game, I just have to figure out how to link up PS2s. I stopped playing it because I haven't gotten around to buying a wheel for it yet, and it's too frustrating to try to play with the stupid little controller.

The best console F1 game out there is Grand Prix Challenge...period.
I play a shitload of PC games though...Geoff Crammond's "Grand Prix" series and Ubi's "Racing Simulation" series are by far my favorites though

Hey wow- I got some replys; I thought everyone on this end of the board would flame.
Outrun- its the exact same as the other games just updated graffix and car/team info.
Sic94NAteg- Everything you say is true!
You can download updated team info, better looking F1 cars, more views for racing, and the tracks are based on "real life" measurements. The first time I played it, I was blown away by the realism, it truly feels like your doing about 200+mph when you first play. It took me about 5 hours to get used to the handling. Its awesome, you can change wing and spoiler charcteristics on the fly, and in the pits you can change and modify every aspect of the cars from the gear ratio to how much traction control you want. Also on the fly you can porportion front/rear brake pressure, TC overdrive, steering assistance (for the weak hearted!
) Brake assistance, ABS function, Spin recovery, stability assistance, auto shifting (only on downshifts, upshifts, all the time- whatever!), you can take screen shots, instant replay reviews with a whole lot of extra camera angles, and can even display driver details on the carbon fiber steering wheel. ALso on the steering wheel holds vehicle status, including tire ware, RPM's, gears, lap times etc. Theres even a launch mode when your starting!! This byfar is the most realistic and on-line-updatable racing game ive ever played on the PC. It has die-hard followers/racers that have webforums that talk and post how to update the game and make it better.
Jeeze I feel like a game reviewer for some magazine! But all I want to do- is find other people with this game so we can race on-line against eachother!!!
BauleyCivic- what format of racing is Ubi's "racing simulation" ?
I wish there was a rally game out there that was this good...
Speedracer- I understand the diffuculty with the controller. If you want more info on how to hook up PS2 to the computer, i would be more than happy to post it for yah. Im not sure if the PS2 game and the PC game are capable of playing online together- hmm..
im not positive though.
More game features for the die-hard racers:
Strategy: Adjust tires, starting fuel, number of stops, and lap numbers for your sheduled stops
Gearing: Adjust 1st to 7th gear ratios as well as final drive and reverse ratios
Mechanical and Aero: Make adjustments to brake duct size, engine rev limit, radiator size, steering lock, diff lock, front and rear wings, front and rear anti-roll bars, weight distribution, and brake bias
Tire and camber: change the cars vehicle camber and tire pressure for each wheel, and also toe in/out front + rear.
Bump damping: make changes to fast bump and slow bump damping
Rebound damping: adjust fast rebound and slow rebound settings
Then you can save multiple car settups for each track or track day. Open track testing and tips coming from your pit crew captain make this game ****** awesome.

I play F1 Challenge, but haven't tried playing online yet. It's great because you can download so many mods and tracks. In fact, I've been playing the ETCC mod frequently.
I've heard Grand Prix Legends is better in terms of mechanics and realism. You can pick GPL up for really cheap on EBay (probably around $10-15).
Here's a good sim-racing site to check out: http://www.racesimcentral.com

A little off topic, but the upcoming GTR (being made by Simbin - the guys who did the GTR2002 mod for F1 2002) will blow everything that has come before out of the water! Can't wait for this first "REAL" Sportscar sim to be released!

Check out the Anderstorp video...
And the sound files put everything else that has been produced to shame!

The new WGTS mod by Team RSR (same people who created the ETCC mod) looks promising as well. They're still developing cars at the moment.

Wooaah! check out these new screen images from GTR, specifically the Data Acquisition screen shots... never seen any racing sim go into this much detail!
GTR screenshots
Definately something to keep real race car drivers busy in the offseason, I think...

GTR is just getting better and better...

F1 did suck, but andretti racing owned. It was awesome for its time, the 2 player mode was extremely fun as well.
