Well I walked outside...

Took off the timing belt from the cam gear..

Put it back on and now the freaking car won't turn over.

Wtf did I do?

I THOUGHT I tightened the tensioner or whatever... but that wasn't a fourteen mm bolt at all. It was like a Seventeen or something.

I also cant' find ANYthing on adjusting timing. What in the hell did I just do to my car? LoL>

 

do you have everything lined up correctly? all the timing marks. your cams and Crank should be at TDC. the white mark by the crank pulley shows TDC. but ur car should still run if the timing is off. did u disconnect any grounds or remove any thing else?

 

Newp I didnt disconnect anything at all.

And I didnt see any white mark by the crank pulley.

I need to find some pictures or something because maybe im blind.

I had the "Up" facing up when I put it back on. But I can't see where the hell the crank pulley is supposed to be. Stupid car really wont start though.

 

Ohh **** i think ur timing is way out of wack then. on your crank pulley there is a little white mark. you should line that up with the white mark on the timing belt over ( the plasitic peice that protects the timing belt)

See the lil white mark by the guys hand u have to line that up with the one on the timing cover

I have a d16z6 in my hatch. And it hasnt been running at all. It would crank, run, then when you drive it it sputters out and dies.
Im assuming it's the timing.

The cam gear just kind of .... turrrnsnsssss... now that i've messed with it though.>.<

You mean that spec of dirt down by his wrist? That's like.. white? Is that the mark? Who the hell knows to look for that?

look at the pic. do you see the round hole on the pulley? now look for three little notch close together toward the bottom of the pulley, you should see 1 red notch, between 2 black notch, little bit toward the right of the pic you should see a white notch. that is your tdc. it should be line up with the mark on the timing belt cover.

Blah they were probably already bent.

When we put the timing belt on anyway it ran like garbage. So im sure the motor i bought was screwed.

Okay so I went out and checked it again...

It's "Cranking" but not turning over.

Would I hear something if i've bent valves or what?

THe stupid car wasn't running right in the first place... Hasn't even moved from my yard in like two months.

I just need to get it back to cranking or find someone to do the timing belt.

I can't align it myself, I have no idea what to do or look for obviously.

 

If you didn't know what you were doing you shouldn't have fucked with the most precise and important mechanical part on your car . Your timing is off and your cranking is probably damaging it further. Get a H-T member in the area to come fix it and he or she can wipe your *** for you while they're out there, since you seem to be helpless to fix the problem you made, or even adequately describe said problem .

And I agree. Really stupid move on my part. Oh well. Be stupid and learn from it.

I'll just go buy a new engine if that's the problem. Tired of dealing with this one. For all I know the damned thing was fucked from the get go.

 

the tensioner is a 14mm bolt on the lower timing belt cover. There should be a black round cap that you need to pop off to get to the bolt. You just loosen that bolt up and then push down on the rod that is connected to the spring on the tensioner on the inside of the lower timing cover to loosen tension. Then to tighten the tension up you just let go of the rod and the spring will tighten it up. Then you should crank the car a few degrees until the belt tightens. Then all you do is tighten the bolt back up. Also i'm sure the car just isn't starting because the timing is all off. The white mark isn't hard to find on the crank pulley. There should be 4 marks on it. 2 green marks and 1 red mark all close together and then the lone white mark all the way to the left of those marks. You want to line the white mark up with the pointer on your lower timing belt cover that should be located right under the tensioner bolt. It looks like a notch type of thing. When that is lined up then you are at tdc and then you just set your cam gear to top dead center along with that and put the belt on and then tension it. PM me if you have any questions.

 

hey man the best thing to do is to go and get a haynes or a chiltons or something that explains the process in good detail with pictures that you can have in front of you while looking at the car... btw smyrna is like 45 min from me

Don't mean to jack this thread, but on that pic. There is a Little metal pin or something he is holding. I was tearing down my spare y8 and i lost the bitch. is it necessary and what is it's function.

 

your gonna need that! Thats the woodruff key or whatever that holds your crank pulley to your crank so the **** just doesn't spin on there. Your cam gear has one too that connects it to your camshaft.

It's a keyway, and yes you need it. It's only a dollar or so from Honda.
