I've just recently hooked up on a 95 Accord with an H22a. I gotta get it registered and smogged. Anyone know if I will run into problems with the smog test?

 

you will fail unless you alrerady been to see the ref.

how many of those "smog myths" are actually true?? i think there is a huge post on myths for passing smog tests...i dont believe many of those things....but anyone ever done any of those things??

yes...jdm h22a's will fail emissions...simply because they have no emissions in japan and the motor is supposedly, supposed to be in japan sucks doesnt it...i feel your pain

 

i thought Japan was suppose to be more strict on emission since they have small space and lots of cars. People buy new car there every year and the goverment reimburse for people who buy new cars.

Anyways, I have H22A in my 92 EG and will have to go smog, but i believe it will pass since all the o2 sensor and timing are correct. Anyone do a smog for a H22A eg before tell me if they pass or fail?

 

You can pass smog in cali, I know some people that did.

I didnt though, but I didnt try to figure out why either...

 

From what i understand you take ur car to a smog ref and pay a fee and the ref will certify that the swap is smog legal. Then when you take ur car for your smog check whenver the time comes, the sticker will tell the tech that the swap is approved. It still has to pass the normal testing tho.

 

just make sure everything is hooked up and its tuned properly, and it will pass. but depending on how picky the shop is, they might not let it pass visual. luckily i know a local shop, and the owner said as long as both engines are 2.2, which they are, he'll smog it.

 

about visual inspections. Does that involve like checking the serial # of the engine and you can not have CAI installed for visual inspection?

What if you take it to ref, will you need to remove the cai ? Is it required that you have a h22a engine diagram under the hood?

 

JDM h22a will pass as long as its the same year or newer than your car. Also have to be equipped with all sensors equivalent to USDM h22 counterpart. Once your motor is legit and running legit the ref will give you a pretty B.A.R sticker to place on your radiator support to show off to your friends and the smog check techs.
