Pros & cons of a ITR tranny on a LS engine
My stock tranny was starting to show it age so I replaced it with a ITR transmission. I main reason that I did this is for the LSD system for autocross & track events. However my engine is running at a higher RPM than what I’m used to. I can tell that it will be drinking more gas but fells strange at 80+mph. Has any else done this swap & can you please give me your impressions?
Thanks
Thanks
When I had my Ls/Vtec swap done I went from an LS motor with an LS tranny to my current motor and a B16 tranny (same gearing as ITR tranny). It's definitely something to get used to. Your LS motor makes the most power mainly down lower in the RPM band where as a B16/GSR/ITR motor makes more power higher up. So basically, the gearing in the ITR tranny is made to allow you to stay higher up in the RPM band, which isn't really a great thing for your stock (?) LS motor. Hope you enjoy the LSD though!
ITR tranny is more of a race setup and the gears are shorter which gives u better accerleration. It also comes with a LSD that helps you in cornering. There are many pros, and the only con i can think of is that it eats more gas.
I would also like to know. i got a buddy who works at an acura dealership and hes gonna get my a type r tranny, brand new, for 1100. Im also doing it for the LSD cuz it costs around 1300 for a quife so I would rather have an all new tranny. also Im turboing my LS.
The biggest factor in gas milage on hwy is going to be throttle position. If you're at WOT all the time, then its going to eat more gas. Your milage will be not too too far different from the LS tranny if you're cruising.
I guess I'm just not used to a close ratio transmission, I fell like shifting into 6th (if I had it) if I'm on the highway. The drive out to Traxion was the first time that I got it on a open stretch & really noticed the difference.
