Default Went to the track with my b16 crx

I went to the track with my 91 si with a b16 and the best time I could pull was a 15.5. I am throwing iacv and knock sensor codes, can this be why my times are not great? My car is a 91 si the heaviest Crx would these times be average for this car? I've heard alot of people running like 14.9's with just the motor. I have no intake exhaust or header. My 60 foot times were in the low 2.4's I know this can improve but why is my car running so slow, any help?

well if you want to run good time you have to fix those codes first. i personally would bring a car to a track unless everything is running good.
well it could be lots of reason that your car is running 15.5. it could be those two codes that you have, or the track, or maybe even other things.
how was the track over there in NJ?? is it see level?

Where did you get your B16a from? I ran similar times at the track and tried replacing all sorts of parts and spent countless hours praticing my launch...the end result...I found out that I had a B16 from a automatic...which means automatic cams

i think the auto has the same cams as man. also are you guys running an LS tranny or an B16A tranny. that would make a big differance

I have a S1 tranny. How do you tell if the cams are automatic? I think this might be the culprit considering there was an automatic ECU in the car when I bought it. I'm leaning twords the auto cams idea because compared to my GSR I had the VTEC in this thing pulls like a little girl.

That thing with no vtec is like a tired ZC.
how do you figure, the ZC would have more HP and torque than the b16a without vtec, thats all that engine runs on, without vtec that engine is garbage...

im running 15.6 with a ZC in a 91 hatch even heavier than a crx...

First off, you need to fix those codes. Why would you run it with the KS code on? My car is a 90 civic Si hatch and I ran 14.6 stock and 14.4 with DC header, cheapo exhaust and homemade intake. Also, a B16a stock doesnt produce a lot of torque....your 60' times should be around 2.2 max with street tires. I got mine down to 1.9 with some street tires.

I dont know the best i got mine to run to was a 15.7 but it was throwing a vtec code and vtec wasn't working jackass that installed my engine wired it wrong never got to clock it since then cant pass tech right now is the s1 a b16 or ls and how do you know if you have automatic cams
S1 is the good short gear ratio trans. I have a set of manual 1st gen B16a cams and cam gears forsale for 50 bucks. Do you need help wiring that car? Let me know. That thing with no vtec is like a tired ZC.

I think this might be the culprit considering there was an automatic ECU in the car when I bought it.
If it had an automatic ecu....it is prolly auto cams...question..Are you still running that ECU in there?

Yes, Auto cams are weak, and worse than stock man. cams.

Go and buy some '99-'00 Si cams from the classified forums (got mine for $85 shipped), fix your codes, and get on a dyno to see where you stand. And spend $100 for an intake, and $230 for a header. Then you'll be mid-high 14's.

It seems funny that a b16a CRX will only run mid-high 14's with some bolt-ons...SOHC Vtec's run those times and the motors are a lot cheaper. I've seen stock motor CRX's run 15.5's. This begs the question....Is the b16 really worth it?

Don't be fooled.
Auto and manual JDM firt gen B16's have the exact same camshafts.
the difference is on the ECU, not the cams.

First gen B 16 camshafts are the weakest of all b16's ever made,
if you want more power get GSR cams, and forget about 99/00 Civic Si cams.
If you want the most power and still use OEM get CTR cams.

i changed my ECU. It had an auto ECU. Will the knock sensor code disable vtec?

Yeah, knock sensor negates vtec, and there is a difference between manual and auto 1st gen cams.

yea...that is wrong...even the magazine Turbo had an article about the auto B16A...they had to swap out the cams cuz of that for some stock SI cams...the cams are geared more for torque...i have a auto JDM B18C and have the same problem....swap the cams out for something better!

lol one thing I've learned, don't run your car if it's not running right, or you WILL be dissapointed. FIrst time to the track with my B16 I ran a 15.5 @ 93mph (.531r/t 2.48 60ft.)

Reason why?

My distributor was shot and I was running crazy rich
(found this out the next day) My cat is melted almost completely closed! i couldn't rev past 6900rpms or it would choke.

Shootin for LOW 14s next time out....

Actually, the B16 has roughly 140hp without VTEC activated, doesn't it? And a 7000rpm redline. Would be a close race.....

FYI, newer Si cams and GS-R cams are the exact same specs ...... so just get the Si cams.

Actually, the Si crx is heavier than the Si civic stock...well there is a 3lb difference. It is minute. Don't worry, I wasnt bombing you for having a ZC. A B16a with the Vtec dissabled would be a very close race with a ZC. Oh, and FYI, I have seen many stock ZC's run 15.1 on streeet tires.

without vtec that engine is garbage
...Someone mad that they dont have vtec? Garbage huh?
