Out of curiousity, the load rating on a jack, should it be higher than the weight of the car it's being used on? Since it's not supporting the entire weight of the vehicle, I would think not, but just wondering if there's some rule of thumb with that.

Yes rating on the Jack should be higher than the curb weight of the car. I couldn't tell you why, but that is how the rating is based.
