Apexi V-AFC........Worth it???
Ok well i have about 500.00 to spend and im thinking about doing a mini me swap. already have the manifold going on anyways. I already have a good amount of bolt ons as you can see in my sig. below. Will the apexi v-afc be a good investment, basicly does it help and do i see any gains? The other question is would i see any gains or any improvments if i used it with my d16y7?
unless you have plans for a turbo spending all that money on the d16y7 is a waste...
<-- short-ram, nice drop, short shifter, and a little cosmetic-ish to make it "nice-nice"
what are your other plans for the y7?

yes the vafc is worth it!..Hondata is better but a little bit harder to work with if you're inexperienced. If anyone with any amt of bolt-ons installs a vafc they will gain horsepower when taken to a dyno and tuned. I know a few people with B16 swaps with basic bolt ons get almost 20 more hp to the wheels after tuned. So yes get it.
well i had 2000.00 but since i got a major ticket and now have 5 point im not doing any major power now. I used the money to pay off almost the rest of my car and am now left with 500.00. This was just an option. If not this i may just be doing a carbon fiber hood.

Tom is one example, I believe.
He installed an AFC on his C5 and with tuning got quite a gain in power. Dyno tuning is a must, though, with a VAFC. I have one right now from when I was turboed on the hack setup and then when I went all-motor with a cam, but I'm thinking of selling it. It basically sits in my car and does nothing as it is. But if you want the maximum out of your setup (or close to it), a VAFC is a nice little investment to alter the air/fuel and gain power.

The local shop that tuned both of my setups charges $120 per hour. But it can range from $100 to over $200 per hour.
Just depends on the shop. I consider my local shop's price more on the cheap side, but it's still pretty pricey if your setup is hard to tune or something isn't right and you need to go back for more tuning. And I'm not sure if I'm going to sell my VAFC just yet. I've been thinking about it but have been too lazy to go under the dash and snip some wires and reconnect a few others. Damn, I'm one lazy SOB.

my friend has a jdm itr motor thats pretty much stock besides skunk2 stage 1 cams and i/e. tuning with a vafc he had 10 hp and like 8 ft-lbs. over his baseline. pretty good if u ask me

it's basically the same except it has a few more features.
