I'm a tad bit confused why someone would want to add the third brakelight...mine was removed by the previous owner and i haven't missed it at all

he removed his wing, thus he had no spoiler brake light. some states require a 3rd light by law. actually, its probably more like most states, if not all.

Its ILLEGAL to run without it. If a cop is a dick, you can get a ticket for it. Besides, its for your own saftey. So the person behind you sees you stoppin if they arent lookin, sometimes normal brake lights arent enough.

i used a bracket that came with my deck. bent it like a hook on one end to hook onto the squarish hole on the rear panel and then bent the other end to comform with the light housing then screwed it down with a screw. the force of the window will keep the hook in place and the rubber trim around the light will keep it from sliding too much against the window

You'll miss it if you're ever in a rear-end collision. Since it's federally required, I'm not sure how you've managed to pass inspection without it either.

if they are already at fault insurance probably doesn't care. Its not like they are going to give you the chair or something for not having it. But it is required by law and you can get stopped whenever a cop feels like it and get a ticket. It pretty much like removing a complete tailight assembly, just not as obvious to spot.

I've thought of getting a 3rd gen LS brake light, but I kinda like having my wing's LED in my rear window. I just need to figure out a better way to mount it so it's easier to see from the rear, and so that it won't reflect in my rearview (need to make a housing of some kind). You can see it in the pic in the Aunie link in my sig.
