Default Dyno Day in Pittsburgh, still high on the fumes!

I'm a fricking moron, and forgot my camera, so we only got a few courtesy of mike's old-school floppy disk digicam. I never used to forget my camera. Must be old age.

I'll let the guys post their specifics, but we had 4 ITRs there (3 running), and all were pretty comprable...in many cases despite mods, which was interesting to say the least. The peak number of the day went to our bone stock representative, followed by a stock-but-for-intake R, and the most heavily modded R (spoon header, AEM, high-flo cat, exhaust) was about 1 HP behind that...i think he needs to work on more fuel and possibly reprogramed ECU to see the potential of his stuff. (and it occurs to me that i'm not sure if he reset his ECU since mods). First runs seemed to be the most powerful, might have been due to the colder engines. The majority were 150-155 range (mustang dyno, reads lower than dynojet), had some good 0-60 and 1/4 mile times as well. Timing advance wasn't the power-giver that I've seen on 3 B18s (mine, D's and a local GS-R). Here's the one pic that came out, i'm the lanky weirdo workin on the distributor while MrBite helps out with the timing gun in foreground. Hopefully we'll have some more analog pics when they develop.

Today is Awesome!...
I kinda got a headache now.. probably because of the rain..
(or the fact that my R is OK, meaning I need to drive better!!)..

Thanks to Aleph and MrBite for Advancing my Timing to 18 degrees..(from 16)
I believe my R gain about 1.8-2 WHP... to about 157.2 from about 155.something

actually when we do the convoy, (most of the time I am at the back) to see all 3 NBP Type R is like watching the Fast n Furious movie.. (instead of the 3 Black Civics)
Damn.. I keep on saying to myself.. "3 Black Knights"... and Me.. Phoenix Yellow, what? a beauty Queen? being led by 3 Black Knights? oh well I always like the Black R...
but yeah, I am telling you.. it was so COOL!! especially when we all change lanes and start hitting the Rev at Liberty Tunnel..

Overall, I feel good for my R... at least I know that the CEL problems with misfire don't really affect the power of my R....
BUT! after this dyno day, I am a little more hesitant to do MODs to the engine..
probably I will do some suspensions upgrades instead of the engine..

well...it was a pleasure to meet you all...
what a Great day!!.. it was all Fun!.

EDIT: I probably should put my Dyno Result too, eh?

0-60 = 6.11

Distance: Time
100 Yds 5.874
200 Yds 8.936
300 Yds 11.457
400 Yds 13.756
60 Feet 2.219
1/4 Mile 14.620 @ 95.685

LINK FIXED: (Didn't Realize this didn't work).

Well, here's my dyno (as you can tell). Not a bad first dyno. At least it gives me a good base to start with. Can in first for the 0-60 and 1/4 (correct me if I'm wrong guys), and second in horsepower (under the bone stock R). Just proof enough that you should know what your doing when tuning these cars, I guess. All I have thus far is an Injen intake. Number's are below:

0-60 6.01

Quarter Mile:
100y 5.915
200y 8.977
300y 11.517
400y 13.806

60 Feet 2.310
1/4 Mile 14.670 @ 95.320

EDIT: Whoops, I guess I stand corrected. Stock R all they way! I got the cool "gif" though!

Sounds good to me. We need more color, since there are too many blacks driving around in the area!

I think I would cry if I bought a $900+ header and a stock version of the same car made more power than mine. I have plans on buying the same mods (hi-flow cat, spoon header, and exhaust) plus the Icebox, but these results have gotten me wondering if it's worth it. Any guesses as to how many whp increase will the spoon equiped R see with tuned fuel delivery and a reset ECU?

EDIT - Aleph, you look like the American Badass, Undertaker, in that pic

Actually, that was the debate of the day. It's not that these mods CAN'T gain more WHP, it's just that the ECU wasn't responding well to them. It's like the ECU didn't know to make the fuel more rich for the added air or something. I'm sure that when properly tuned (adding more fuel), could solve some of the problem. I would suggest (as well I'm sure others would too) that you dyno your car, (to get a base) and work from there. Some mods could be better then others, plus you will be getting a more acurate dyno with EACH part. In essence, you would know how much each mod was really helping.

You prob could, however this keeps things within honda spec 16 degrees + or - 2. 14-16. I wouldn't want to run the risk of hearing any strange "pinging" noises.

Well.. that's a good question... but according to the Spec, +/- 2 degrees from 16 is the recommended settings..

You can do anything you want with the timing (until it won't turn no further), but +18 is "safe" and has provided good gains on most of the B18s i've seen and done. Today was a little different, 2 of our Rs didn't react like i expected to the changes, although 401s fell in line after it warmed up. Moral of the story: if you're doing mods, do them for a reason. Honda did a pretty good job, and it's hard to improve on a highly tuned engine...obviously, it can be done, but don't expect to screw on a header and get instant gains...it might take more work than that. The more you change, the more you gotta tweak...i'm sure we'll get a post from Mark with a list of his mods for the gurus to ponder, again the potential is there, flow wise....but those of you on the fence, your stock R is probably more powerful than you think.

GET A BASELINE AND USE THAT SAME DYNO EVERY TIME. DON'T EXPECT NUMBERS TO MATCH UP ALL THE TIME. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CURVE MORE THAN A PEAK NUMBER. That is all.

I had a lot of fun today guys, we'll do more R stuff over the winter i'm sure, definately gotta get D in on the action, he's OG 98 ITR gangstah compared to us newcomers

Huiks? 168 WHP? that's pretty good..
what mods?
the R seemed to be better with the age, just like wine...doesn't it?
(That's why I use my R daily as a Drug)

Woo, today was fun! I'm suprised all you guys let me take a wrench to your R's after just meeting you this morning! haha PiYoImuT is right--4 R's in the liberty tunnel was awesome, that's a lot of N/A horses screamin'. I think the best part was on the ride there when the middle aged guy in the old TL pulled a ricer flyby on the whole caRavan
Well, I was a bit upset that I couldn't show these moonroofless punks a thing or two, but let me tell you, Aleph and I can now adjust your timing in about .36 seconds .

Oh, and aleph, don't worry. We won't tell them how many things you dropped in the dyno

haha, hey, i came out with more sockets than i dropped, doesn't that count for something!?! And yeah, there is no better sounding piece of earth than a mile long tunnel with four angry cars in it...the AEM and Injen in particular were echoing of the walls....second only to D without an ehxaust on VTEC

We'll all have to get together for a meet or something when we can all make it Do you guys have any time that would be good for you? Aleph, didn't you take about some meet going on near the waterfront soon? Another option would be to meet in Akron at the next autocross event (if it actually takes place this weekend). Then we could get the Akron and Cleveland guys as well. LOTS of angry cars...NICE! Maybe then we could get some cool pictures to show those Toronto people instead of the other way around!

Question, the one dyno I did see posted looked like the owner backed out of the throttle before 8000. Is there a reason for that? I know my car made peak HP at almost 8000, and peak torque at just shy of 7000...
I know cars are different, but just asking if attempts at higher RPMs were made.

I think that your reffering to mine. We did try to go higher, but this particular dyno was a speed test (3rd gear, and taking it to 80MPH). I'm not sure what to say really, other then that all of our dynos (even Mark's with the mods) ended up looking pretty much the same (around 7400-7600rmp for peaks). If your getting cains at 8000 that's pretty good.

I did however pick a range (2600-7600) instead of including the entire dropoff point.

Brandon, Your result doesn't show up.. check the image link again...

about the meeting.. that will be cool if we can gather all Rs around here.. but seemed that Toronto got more Rs than the US itself.....

and about the peak power being at 7500, somehow when I run on the Dyno, The signal to shut it off comes before I even hit the Rev limiter @3rd gear.

Thanks YOS...I fixed the link. (Forgot to put it on the website). The signal came because you had reached your peak, and were beinging to fall. Beleive me, Mike would tell you to keep pushing it if you had any more left!

DAMN I keep having to edit everything!

YOS I got together a list of maybe 30-40 ITR's in the Ohio/PA/WV area. We could make it work, but we are runing out of good days! Aleph, MrBite, D, you guys want me to send out some e-mails? Don't know how you guys feel about meets...

That should be adjustable in the program that the dyno runs on. Usually, they ask you what you are going to run it to...

by the way, There is someone selling a PY R in Pittsburgh!!!!!!!!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...184122&r=0&t=0
well, I met this guy (I think), he loves it... even his friend is asking whether I am selling mine or not.. but dunno why He is selling it right now too..
Damn.. I wish:
1. I have the money
2. It is Black instead of PY.(since if it is, I'll work the magic for the $$)...

Piy- just the typical, stuff, aem intake, unorthodox race pully,dc 4-1 header,5zigen fireball exhaust, test pipe, and cam gears,no p/s no a/c. when i went to carisle i dynoed at 180.1 on their dynojet dyno but that was before the cam gears were on the car , i tuned the cam gears at speednation on his mustang dyno but i havent been back to a dyno jet dyno since.i ran a 1/4 mile run on the mustang dyno and got a 14.2 but i can hook up on that thing, i went up to keystone a couple of weeks ago on street tires with a 2.27 60' i ran a 13.9@100mph. i just put a set of the Z10 engineering bars on my car but i didnt have time to set them up yet

itr41- good guess sam, hmmm i wonder who tuned my car, that fat old guy did it, o wait thats me :D
