i have a 87 crx si with pgm-fi and my car heats pretty quick and will stall when my temp gauge reads 1/3 and i usually have to wait like 15-40 min to start it again, and my car has trouble on the cold start sometimes and if i start it and turn it off it usually wont start for like 15 min. When it dies it wont pop start so can anyone tell me exactly what is wrong with my car.

also - my pgmfi light is usually comes on when i start it and if i dont hear da buzzing noise it wont start and my pgmfi light comes on after 2 min of driving.

do a tune up.. plugs wires cap and rotor, keep in mind that honda ignition systems suck

I did all that myself, and the problem was here since before I did that, which is why I'm clueless. Any other suggestions?

 

Once it dies and wont start, start finding out why. Check for spark and fuel, you know its timing is ok, and has has compressio since it will run. I'd be willing to bet your having trouble with your spark. Sorry I cant help more with specifics but I dont know much about that gen. Good luck.

the thermostat sensor?

 

Wouldnt suprise me. Obviously what ever it is, malfunctions once its warmed up and wont operate correctly again until its cooled back down. So something in the thermostat could be a major possibility, Try searching around you intake mana as well, and exhaust mana.

Check your Crank angle sensor

 

had a similar prob with my 91 DX was the crank angle sensor for me which was in the dist had to get a new dist

 

what does a crank angle sensor look like?

idk about the 87 rexs but in the newer engines its in the crank, but idk about pre 88.

 

I'd look at the main fuel relay as a culprit.
