here's my problem. just replaced my outer axle boot and its leaking grease from the edges. its a jdm 98 spec ITR, and since ITR parts aren't available here, i used an axle boot from an accord. it fits alright, except that grease is leaking from the edges. i was thinking about putting some hondabond under the edge to stop the leak. is this a good idea, or does anyone have a better suggestion?
You were only supposed to put 30cc. of Constant Velocity grease in, you most likely put wayy too much in so there is some in the boot itself (you should have put it in the centre of the joint so the turning motion forces it to the bearings.
There should be minimal grease in the boot itself, haveyou pulled the metal strap' tight? if you have (and theres no perforationsin the rubber boot) then dont worry dude, the excess grease will keep on forcing its way out until there is no more in the boot, your just going to have to keep cleaning up the grease once a week. I've had the same problem (
) but its just about stopped now. How long it takes is all to do with how much you drive the car and how fast.
As for the hondabond, dont.
