4 speed civic what is this
Basically you have a 5 speed transmission minus the overdrive...
Overdrive is great for highway driving... I think these transmissions were just mainly intended for around towning...
Yes, it will work on other cars with the D series engine. WHy would you want to? In a bind or desperation I suppose. I would rather have the 5 speed.
I have another 4 speed if you would like to pay shipping for it.
Matter of fact, I have a lot of D series stuff...

the ratios are different in the 5 spd than the 4 the 5 has shorter gears. when i had my 4 spd in second i could hit 60mph but with my 5 spd i hit the rev limiter @ like 55-56mph (i dont have a tach so i have to rely on my speedometer and noise from the engine)
Std 4sp 1st gear ~= Si 5sp 1st
Std 4sp 4th gear ~= Si 5sp 5th
In a normal Honda engine where you need to keep the rpms up the Si 5sp is a much better choice.
I have heard of some turbo'd guys using the 4sp trans in order to keep the turbo spooled for a longer period of time.
