Default Question from a noobie!

Hi Folks,

I am writing to get some information for a friend of mine. She has just purchased a new 2004 Civic EX. 1.7L with a five speed. Pretty nice car but she is looking to make it a little snappier.

I have been modding my 96 Caprice for a few years so I know my way around a LT 1 350 but I really have no idea what to do to tune an import. I have never owned a Honda so I am pretty lost.

Let me give you some guide lines. She is looking for this to be fairly simple bolt on or drop in stuff. No internal engine mods, no turbos. Nothing crazy, I was thinking a cold air intake and performance filter, possible reprogramming of the computer or changing the chip (however it is done on a Honda).

Any information or opinions will be greatly appreciated. You can drop me a line at GeoGoGo@AOL.com or reply to this post. Thanks in advance everyone and have a Happy Easter.

Respectfully,

George D.

Not worth the money to spend on bolt ons for 5 more extra HP. I would probably just drop in a K&N drop filter and work on the suspension.

The typical first steps for a honda are intake, header, exhaust.

Each of these items independently will make very minor improvements in performance, at the expense of added noise - which she may or may not want.

Coming from a V8 background, you'll probably be pretty disappointed with the performance/cost ratio. You could easily spend $500-1000 to gain 5-10hp.

Guys,

Wow! Thanks for the speedy replies! Bummer to hear about the lack of quick bolt on stuff. She does not want to get much louder. I appreciate the input though and any more that may come.

Respectfully,

George D.

George. First of all I would like to thank you for not being rude to us Import owners. Many Domestic owners come in here to flame and I applaud your maturity in this matter.

To answer your question, Bolt-ons on a smaller displacement engine will truthfully not do too much. You'll spend about 1000$ for Intake/Header/Exhaust and gain 10whp tops.

The only real way I see her making some more power is doing a full N/A buildup, Forced induction or an engine swap all together. Which seem to be out of the credentials that you have stated.

I hate to say this, but if she dosnt want "always on" power, she could always go with a small shot of nitrous (35-50hp).

Edit: The reason your not allowed to PM is that your still a Trial User. I believe this stays for a total of 20 days. You will also notice that you won't be able to post in all forums etc.

Eric,

I appreciate the input. While the import tuner stuff is not my bag, I see no reason to flame anyone for their tastes. I do know what you mean though, I see a lot of "Rice Bashing" on the domestic boards and it seem pretty childish if you ask me. Like I said, not a fan of imports but I have seen some that are very well done and once in a while, ones I like.

I do thank you for the help. I never realized how much money is required to tune an import. I guess I have new found respect for what you guys (and ladies) get your machines to do. Thanks for the info and I will pass it along. Take care everyone and Happy Holidays!

Respectfully,

George D.

i think it is a waste of time 01+ civics r not too performace oriented

put on maybe a nice intake and exhaust and maybe a header, then do the suspension like crazy and put some sticky tires on with some respectful wheels
