how do I remove the old head gasket?
are there any chemicals or something to take this stuff out?

I was noting that initially, your picture didn't show up and a red X showed up instead. You can take a scraper and get it off, however be careful not to get any particles into the water jackets, or in the cylinders.

i forget who makes it... maybe permatex... they make a gasket remover.. my tech teacher got it. it worke pretty good for a cork gasket on an oil pan.. but we ended up using a wirewheel on it so it was perfect.. but that **** is like acid. bubbles up and eats at it

pull as much off as possible... I use gasket remover of some type and I also use a Die grinder with Roloc bristle disc's for alumium blocks too.. but thats takin it far tho...
