Default First time at track...how to improve?

Yesterday was the first day I ran my car at the track...the results where very disappointing . 2000 gsr rota c8 w/ kumho ecsta 205/40/16 @25psi. I kept getting wheel hop launching at 3.5 and 4. I messed up in a different way on all three of my runs. Suggestions are appreciated.

I have a 96 GSR, I ran a 15.102@ 91.59. Your 60fts are pretty bad, especially for aftermarket tires, you should be pulling some 2.2s at least. I get 2.30s when I go to the track. I have a stock car as well. Where are your shift points, I shift slightly before redline since the power drops off. Do you do a burnout? I don't do them on my stock tires. Maybe give your car a tuneup and feather the clutch out of the hole, spinning the tires at the line does nothing but make your times suck. Where are you located? Close to sealevel or somewhere high up like the mountains. Put up some more detailed info.

It was the opening night at portland international raceway, not too shure about how high sealevel was. My 60 foot times were pretty bad...the first time i launched at 3.5 and got bad wheel hop...my friends told me to try 4 when I suggested 3. Ironically my best time came when I launched at 4k with really bad wheel hop...I shigt right before redline on my last run and best run...Previous two runs, I either hit rev limiter or shift too early. Worst thing about my disappointing times was that I ran a high 15 with cai...

Try a tune-up, try to slip the clutch, definetly don't hit the rev limiter. I hit the limiter once in my car and it cost me 4 tenths almost. The slowest time I have ever had was when I missed a gear and that was a 15.5. Try that and let me know how that works, I launch from the same rpms too.

You need track experience. Just keep going. You will learn your car eventually.

It seems to be mostly driver error right now, once you get your launch down it should be pretty easy to shift at the same point each time (keep practicing). With most everything in life, its just going to take experience and time. Keep going and your times will drop.

Learn how to launch, learn your best shift points and your times will drop significantly.

Also, having a CAI isn't going to drop your times by anything noticable, its not that major of a mod.

I think the next time I go, I'll try to launch at 3k. What should my tire pressure be at for a 205/40/16 size tire? I definately believe that I can get into the low 15's if I get the launch down right, which was my biggest broblem. I ran against my friend's b16a civic coupe w/ a few things done...he ran consistant 15 flat....It was embarassing getting beat by a civic...

The longer you hang around here, the less and less you will be embarrassed about losing to a civic

I just went for my first time this week and pulled a 14.6 at 95mph. But I have a bunch a **** on mine. I lunched and 3000 and red lined at 8200 but I have a ctr cam and p-28 so thats just me. I know I can do better. I need some tires. I was getting to much tire spin.
