What are your opinions on the 2004 Civic EX?
I just picked up a 2004 Civic Ex. Its paid for, and I dont really care if I void the warrenty, so engine work isnt a big deal.
My question is, I'm way new to honda's. I've heard some good things on older honda's how do the new ones compare? Mine has the 1.7 liter V-tech.
I was thinking of starting with the simple bolt ons and going from there.
Any comments?

Not to hate on the new Civics or anything, but all the brand new EX's I've seen are slow as my EX (94 coupe). Granted, they were all stock...but so was my bud's outside of a fart cannon and APC cool air intake. We kinda rolled on about 3 of them pretty badly and his clutch slips. I've heard they respond real well to upgrades though....take advantage of that slightly bigger engine and turbo it or juice it or something....is your's a manual or auto? Also, I bet if you remapped the ECM it would do you a world of good, half the reason why I think the new one's are so slow is due to dumbed down performance programming in the ECM....but I don't really know much about the new ones...
Im not too crazy about the newest chassis, I prefer the EK, but to each his own. IF I owned a 02+ civic I would go K20, a lot easier than a k20 in EG or EK. check out hybridgarage.com for their info on k20 in new Si.
i like how it looks, and i remeber seeing some of the 02 and 03 at the track doing pretty good with simple bolt ons. i dunno didn't the 04 become one of the ulev's or somthing

I really like the 04 Civics.
Yes they are not fast, but remember neither were any of our once-stock Civics either. They weigh more and they will never be as fast for as cheap, but that's not the point.
The new Civics scream "refinement" and they are more like a slightly smaller Accord these days.
If one were buying a car with going fast on a budget then of course an 04 Civic is not the wisest choice, but if someone wants a brand new car that is really NICE then the 04 Civics are just that.
One of my cousins just got an 04 LX coupe (not a typo - they make LX coupes) and it is really nice. A lot quieter and smoother than any other Civic, which means a lot to some people.

If you have the money and want some decent power, I say go turbo. But if u can only afford bolt ons then do what you want. My personal opionion of the new civic is its kinda ugly. But everyone has their own taste, and im kinda biased cuz i own a ek so yea

Your not dissin, your telling the truth. Though the new Civic has a 1.7L VTEC engine the VTEC is actually VTEC-E. For economy. Origionally VTEC was intended to produce the maximum power while reducing emissions and improving fuel economy. The VTEC-E is tuned down slightly for economy. I would recommend starting with that standard bolt ons and then do the valve train... Start with cams, valves titanium retainers and tighter springs. Then build and turbo (if desired) the motor. Good luck with the new Civic. I personally would actually do a K series swap but thats just me. That K20A-DC5R is PHATTY!!! Happy Tuning!!!
