Default noises while driving.

I've got two problems if you will while driving my EK. First problem is finding a way to mount my exhaust higher, it rattles against the suspension techniques sway bar. any ideas on that? second is a little more difficult. every so often while driving i hear a loud thunk of what sounds like metal on metal from the rear of my car. sometimes happens on accel and decel but mostly on turns. it's not something that happens everytime but it's pretty damn close. anyone have any input on that or have expierence somethin like this before? I jacked my car up on the rear driver side and looked at all the bolts for the lca's, lower shock mount, and sway bars and all those look good. i'm at a complete loss here.

Could be your exhaust swining on the second problem. For the first, try to find shorter hangers.

You have to remember, YOU can't replicate the forces your car experiences. I've tried to move my exhaust longitudinally, and it doesn't budge. But turn the motor on and rev it cold, and there is a slight rub.

i know the exhaust pipe vibrates because it is rattling against my sway bar. that is the problem i know about and now how to fix, and i can move my muffler around, (kicking it moves it quite a bit) but it really sounds like it's closer to the wheel on the driver side, thinkin it might be the mounting for the sway bar but it's kinda hard to look at that while driving and hard to tell when you jack the car up due to the shocks being fully extended and such. has anyone else experienced something like this with the suspension techniques rear sway bar for a 96-98 civic coupe?

did you grease the bushings on the sway mount? they could be binding and popping when the body rolls.

i didn't grease them but i haven't had this problem until recently although so far it sounds like the most reasonable cause of the problem... i'll probably get under my car tomorrow, undo the bolt for the sway bar, grease those things up and re mount it. what grease is recomended?anything special?

Lithium grease does the job. I had the same noise on the front swaybar in my last car. If you dont grease the polyurethane it binds up very easily with the powdercoated surface of most aftermarket bars.

Hope it fixes things up for you.

The rear anti-sway bar may also be making contact with one or both lower control arms. It happened on my Civic. The Progress rear anti-sway bar was hitting the passenger side LCA. I initially thought it was just a bad bushing or something because I kept hearing a thunking sound when the passenger side suspension would compress. Nope, it turned out my RASB was hitting the LCA ... enough so that it actually formed a little dent in it! But now there's no thunking because of the dent.
