Okay...I had to get my by car inspectected...In Japan, all cars are required to be inspected every 2 years for any illegal or hazzardous parts....well, they called me up and told me that my Top Fuel wing had to go (at least during the time of inspection) beacuse it wan not a 'standard' part....and they were nice enough to take it off for me....when I got it back It was still wingelss...I kinda liked at first and kept it off for a few days...but it seemed so naked, and even a bit unstable at high speeds...so the wing goes back on this weekend...but not before I could get some pics in....
haha naked???!?!? it looks good that way also!!.. I like the lines of the Type R without it's wing on....gives it a smooth look..
I guess i've never seen yoru car with a Top Fuel wing on though.. got a pic?

It looks bad *** without a wing. But I agree, the wing does help on high end. Yeah.. where are the holes for the wing?!?!.. Were they kind enough to shave off the hole for you too?

You can't see it in the picture, but they covered the holes up with white tape...the tape matched the paint so well, that I also thought they has sealed the holes up too, but if you get close enough, you can see the tape pretty well...not bad stuff for those who want to go wingless temporarily.
I put the Top Fuel wing back on...took me about 2hrs so it got pretty dark out but there you go. Oh BTW, no you may not have my front end
, but I will through in a pic of it and some interior pics too.

how strict is vehicle inspection in Japan with regards to modifications?
[Modified by MiraiZ, 7:23 PM 10/27/2001]
that's very interesting, because most people outside of Japan have the belief that with all the wildly modified cars in Japan, there isn't strict regulations and enforcement. speaking of which, do police in japan regularly stop modified cars and send them to inspection or have them towed?
Here in Vancouver, Canada, due to the large numbers of recent immigrants from Hong Kong and Taiwan, there are huge number of modified cars. However, in the last two years, due to several deaths from street racing, the local authorities have become very strict in dealing with modified cars. Any little modification will get a inspection notice, or immediate towing from police, who frequently stop modified cars on the street. But like you do, most people swap to their OEM parts and pass inspection then put their modifications back on.

The stereo system alone cost like $5000, and I bought it only because I know chances are much lower for it to get stolen in Japan (knock on wood)...I would never buy one of these in he states.
Contrary to belief, the inspection laws are extremely strict...for example, my Top Fuel wing was taken off because it was 3cm larger than the stock one. If the steering wheel blocked the insturment cluster even in the slightest, they make you replace it with a legal one. Of couse, external wastegates are illegal. And I had city lights with blue bulbs, which they replaced with whiteones because blue lights are illegal (even though I have never been pulled over for it) The way things work here is that as long as your registration sticker is up to date, the cops don't question you unless you have something very obviously illegal (like big puffs of smoke pouring out of you car's exhaust)....but stuff like blue lights, oversized body kits, loud exhausts, etc...don't bother cops

I knew writing my senior thesis on crime rates in Japan would come in handy one day, I just figured it would be w/ a job
This is a fascinating thread--seriously. I thought there was an 'anything goes' attitude toward mods in Japan. I'll be damned. Must be a pain in the *** to have to tear you car down and rebuild it!
So what happens to cars with those crazy widebody conversions???

My friend told me that most cops don't really give you too much trouble if you have a modified car. Just that the inspection itself done every 2 years is VERY expensive by North American standards + most people with modified cars just return everything to stock every 2 years just for that purpose. Modifying must be really expensive in Japan just because of this inspection.
dude your car
