acura wants to rape me...
acura wants 700 bux for timing belt and water pump replacement. LOL at them I dont make that kind of money. Anybody want to make some money? I'm gonna buy the parts and find someone to do it out of their house. I live in Arlington, TX. Let me know.
I went to Acura to buy just the PARTS to do that. They wanted almost $100 EACH for just the belt and the tensioner. $200!!! I laughed out loud at the guy.
I then asked him if that was "the best he could do". Bottom line, I got him down to about $110 for both, which isn't as terrible. The problem is, you can get a Goodyear belt and a generic tension for like $70 total.
Who knows, Acura OEM parts are great and all, but they even mark those up at the dealer. It's ridiculous in a way, they already made money off the car, now they try to spear you for parts! I pity the person who just walks in and pays their "intro price".

I had Benson Acura in New Orleans pull that crap with me. I'm quoted 400 for everything then get there to pickup the car and they tell me it's $800. I was pretty pissed off. Talked to the service manager and was told that they replaced all the belts and replaced some gaskets, so that's where the extra cost was. I told him that I wasn't informed about those items and he said 'it's part of the timing belt replacement' I told him it was BS and they threatened to hold on to my car if I didn't payup. I charged it to my card, got into my car and called the credit card company and explained what happened. In the end, Acura ended up eating the extra $300 and I ended up with all new belts : )
I now have learned that it's really not that hard to do it yourself. By the manual and get a friend over for a few hours.

they put the prices so high because they can. theres a whole bunch of dip ***** who dont know the first thing about a timing belt or what it even looks like, so they get it done by someone else....pansies
that also gives you a prime example of when you get your car from the dealership STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTERWARDS

Timing belt is around $55-$60, tensioner is around $55 and water pump should be no more than $90, so all three of those things should be right around $200. That's from Carland Acura.
Pardon my lack of knowledge...but why would you have to buy a new tensioner?
You need any air tools to get this job done? Any special tools? Me and my dad could do it but my dad is afraid he wont have the tools to get into those small honda spaces.

The tensioner pulley is controlled by a spring and held in place w/ a bolt, and over time those can possibly weaken. I'm at 162K miles and will be installing the 3rd timing belt on this car, so I'm thinking it might be a good idea to change it.

The only problem you'll have is getting the crank pulley off without air tools. If you can figure out a way around that, the T belt install isn't that difficult at all. Just be sure to remember that the motor spins counterclockwise, so when adjusting the tension, rotate the motor accordingly.

I got my 90 000 mile check last month they quoted me 500 dollars but it cost 1000 dollars. I was wicked pissed. Be glad that you caught it before they cheated you.

Nice work!
xstalkrx - If you don't have a compressor, you can still get an electric plug-in type impact wrench for pretty cheap at HarborFreight.com. It should still be able to get that crank bolt loose, which I believe is torqued to ~140 ft#. You'll find yourself using it for other stuff as well, especially lug nuts and axle bolts. It's a good investment, although if you're serious about working on your car, just get a compressor! I absolutely love mine, makes life in the garage sooooo much easier.
