Timing Belt ? =)
OK, i had bought my car with 52,000 miles on it a few years back (95 Teg) and i heard your supposed to change the timing belt anywhere from 50 to 60,000 miles ya? well when i had it checked up at acura a few months after i bought the car the car was perfectly fine. But just about a few months ago, i took it for regular service and just needed new brake pads etc etc. Also with a note "Has timing belt ever been changed" i asked them and told them i wasent sure, since i had bought the car at around that time of mileage. They say it looks ok, but they werent sure if it was changed. Anyhow, back to my question, just wanted to get your guys opnion on whether to have it replaced or what not. Its a rather expensive job thats why i wanted to get some input and hear if anyone else has had any stories with timing belts and stuff. Mahalo, thanks everyone

Current ITR manuals say go to 100,000 miles, and i don't think they changed anything....that's just the current fad and it's statistically safe enough that they can say it and for the .01% that do blow they'll say "just one of those things". If the belt looks okay, you can probably go till 60-75k, but i'd play it safe, and go for 60k...i'd imagine that age and heat cycles are more an enemy of the belt than miles. The reason it's pricey is they really have to get in there, they usually replace the water pump while they're there.
This only applies to the LS/GS/RS.
The GSR/ITR belt has been 14400-P72-014 since 1994.
From 1990 to 1995, the LS has 14400-PR4-A01, and in 97 they changed the interval to 100k, the new belt number is 14400-P7J-004.
As an interesting side note, the 97+ LS water pump part number was changed as well. From a 19200-PR4-013 to a 19200-P75-003. The P75 pump costs twice as much for some odd reason.
Makes no sense because both PR4 and P7J belts have the same number of teeth, as do the PR4 and P75 water pumps. Basically identical. Strange....

This sounds like the same thing they did with the NSX. The original recommended service interval on the timing belt was 60,000. They changed it to 90,000 because they found that it was lasting longer than that and there was no need to change it sooner.
Play it safe and change it at 60k like the guys say.
I just changed my belt 29k. hehehe
Started out just an oil change, decided to adjust the valves, took off the adj cam gears to clean them, dropped one of the camgear pins into the t-belt housing and couldnt get it out with a magnet. So since I was gonna take all that crap apart, decided to change the belt, tensioner pulley, and pump..
Hehehe
If you rev or red line your car alot, you should replace it sooner.
Mike! did you get a chance to ship out my misc parts I ordered from ya?? Bolts, fluid, t-belt cover etc...

what's your name, man?
no offense, but i can't stand the "ITR1890-87344" or "NBPITR-CIA-FBI1843792" screen name. too unoriginal. almost like being assigned a prisoner number in a jail. what's your REAL name??
i'm gonna be busy as **** on monday and tuesday, trying to get as many orders as i can out in the mail. i am leaving for SEMA on wednesday, and i wont beback to acura til the following tuesday. so as a warning... don't call naples acura from wednesday to frday this week. hell, it might not be a bad idea to not call at all this week... no offense. i mean, i have about 30-35 orders to put together and send out in two days. large sized orders, too.
any probs, email me. email is in my sig.

You'd be surprised. In the past two months, we have done about 2 or 3 TB services on 94-95 NSX's. They had mileage over 75,000 for sure.
But yes, there ARE people who drive them every day.

yeah I know. I was just messing with Ken. Once on the NSX list they once had a mileage thing going and quite a few guys replied that they owned high mileage machines.
