Default b16 Tranny/ Not good for Highway??

I hear that a b16 tranny on b20's r not good for highway. Why is that. My

brother has a Lsvtec engine he droped in (didnt drive it yet) with a b16

tranny. He is goin to be on the high alot. Drivin from Ct to Ny. Do u think he

is ok. I know a R tranny would be better be should he stick to what he has.

short gears of the b16 tranny tend to suck on the highway, sitting at 4000rpm to drive 100km/hour is annoying at times. might be better off with a gsr tranny.

yea its just the short gearing. You will be sitting at high rpms while cruising on the highway in 5th gear. Not too big of a deal unless you are doing a lot of highway driving to work or something imo.

Better for what?

Better for gas mileage, but otherwise the LS tranny is crap. Most people who pick up the B swap aernt doing it to get good gas mileage, but rather to speed the car up.

^^...why?

implant an ls 5th gear into the b16 tranny so you can cruise at lower rpm on the highway.
I am seriously concidering doing this on my future gsr tanny

B16 tranny sucks on the highway (noise, high RPM). If you do a lot of highway I would recomend a GSR tranny or a LS tranny.

I have a B16 tranny on my LS/VTEC. Sucks on long trips, but its great when trying to over take slower traffic.

yea only thing thats good about it is if you are doing ~80 you will be high enough in rpms that you don't have to drop a gear just to pass some people

ls 5th and different gear on the differential. will bring it down little more than just ls 5th

i wouldn't throw an LS 5th on a B16 tranny if you plan on draggin your car on weekends. unless you're making decent power with your B16, you'll drop out of your powerband when shifting into 5th

if he is draggin his car on weekends, it wouldnt matter if he got an ls 5th gear in his b16 tranny because you dont shift into fifth gear in the quarter mile anyway.

sounds like an alright idea actually

Im sittin at 3k at 60 in 5th. I would swap out the 5th gear for the LS. he wont ever see 5th gear in the 1/4.

Bah humbug, I drive 500 K ever other week to the doctor, and do it at 180-200 in a B16A, nothing a radio can't fix, or a nice decently quiet exhaust, like the WS.

what world did you crawl out of?? i've got a gsr tranny and i'm well into 5th gear at the end of the 1320. a b16 tranny tops out at about 120mph and if you're anywhere near 100mph you're gonna be in 5th.
