kinda OT but not really: got my car appraised at the dealer
2100 f$%#ing dollars! This was a VW dealer btw. 94 GSR no problems 107k miles only mod now is the exhaust. I have a crack in the windshield and it needs to be replaced, which is $230. I knew that would drop it somewhat but cmon I was expecting around 5...My friking motor is worth more than that!!!
The guy was a moron i bet he didnt even know what a GSR is... The reasons I was given for the low price was the cracked windshield and because my car is a stick shift???? WTF??? The guy was telling since I have so many miles on the car and its a stick they wouldnt be able to sell it and they would have to auction it off.... I tried to explain that its a GSR it only come stick but he didnt even seem to pay attention. Dealers suck

hell yeah take it too acura. my dealer gave me 12000 for a 97 gsr with 60000 miles on it/no leather
hey man, i checked out your car for trade-in value at kbb.com (kelley blue book) and it said that the dealer with your miles should give you $6,615 to be exact, it's worth more on the private market, if you don't owe money on it anymore i would try to sell it privately.
trust me i have been trying to sell it but noone is interested... upstate NY sucks *** nothing but hicks. I'll take 7k for it payed 9700 a year ago anyone want it? (shameless advertising)
u getting rid of ur GSR cuz the upcoming harsh winter?
i heard u guys got snow today.
my girls is from grand island and i was there about 5 months ago.

Dealers always say that, it's part of their negotiations. Believe me, they wouldn't auction it unless it was a complete POS. They could probably turn around and make several grand on it, in addition to whatever they get on the car you trade for.
Reselling trade-ins makes HUGE amounts of money for dealers, in fact used cars are a higher profit margin item than new ones.

I'm sure Craig is right....... dealers are nothing but crooks. The only way in hell I'll go back to any dealer for anything is for a brand new car and that won't be for a few years. -dreaming of a '02 or '03 IS300 5-speed-
Anywho, either try advertising online or get some snow tires like me.

i am a finance mgr. for a used exotic dlr in albany. the only thing they do with cars like that i.e. over 100 k is auction them. which means some other small used car dealer will buy it for to much and ask to much. at a dealer there is no negotiation on the value of your car, you just think there is. the value is not based on kbb. that book is used for selling because values are to high. nada wholesale is what is used and you can only get them if you are a dealer. the wholesale number minus dents ,tires etc. is how they get the number. the difference in numbers between dealers or the negotiation is based on the amount of markup in their car. this means you always get a better deal with no trade.
Try the blue book
Being I was in the business for a while, ever heard of the term... "stealing ur trade"? They give you that, put 1k into it cleaning it up... sell for $7500... and make a tidy profit...
DAMN, I hated that business... they're ALL crooks.
I work for a Honda dealer in NC and I'd say you definitely got ripped. As far as auction is concerned, yeah, I wouldn't be suprised if that's what they'd do with the car. We auction half our cars. I sold my friend a 99 Si and we gave him 6500 for a 96LS w/ CAI, coilovers, tails/corners, and rims. We sent the car to our auction (we actually own one). Take the car to a Honda or Acura dealer and you should get a lot more. Unless the car has been wrecked or you waxed it with steel wool, something just isn't right with that number.
P.S. if you've got mods on the car, take them off or expect to have $ taken off for them. It's harder for a franchised dealer to sell a modified car than a stock one and it's reflected in what we'll give you for the car. If you've got a $300 exhaust, be ready to take $300 less at a dealer. And if the car is lowered, good luck with the pricing, there's too much risk involved with a dealer selling the car (that's why we send those to the auction, no risk or liability due to problems resulting from an improperly lowered car or a car that drives differently due to being lowered).
