he's right, but the po's wouldnt even know you had an intake unless they make you pop your hood...even then its a carb legal peice so they might just tell you to get rid of it

If they do take that route, they are going to audit your car. Intake, suspension, cats, lights. Then they give you a fix it ticket, and you have to pay them just to look at your car. Then you have to pay off the fine.

You won't get into any trouble.

You'll get a fix it ticket, probably tell you to go to a ref (maybe depends on the cop)...basically they will say it's only for off road use only.

CARB=California Air Resource Board. this only means that it is smog legal in cali. it can still be deemed ilegal by a peace officer. i picked up some literature from the chp at the last ias.

could you post a little more about this? i thought the only way it was illegal was if it didn't meet CARB regulation, and then the police would give you a ticket because it didn't have CARB certification.
i always assumed that if you had all your CARB EO's on everything on your car, you were invincible to the cops...
?
please elaborate.

California has regulation laws but it really doesn't matter, If you have and intake or headers and is carb legal, they can still write you up a ticket and ask you go to a ref. Any modification to your car performance, lighting, etc is illegal their fight, is it's for off road use only.
just cause it meets carb doesn't mean it meets other regulations. there's at least the noise pollution ordinance. even if your exhaust is EMISSIONS legal (CARB)doesn't mean it's necessarily documented that it's noise legal. and if the officer thinks those phillips bluevision bulbs aren't DOT and rather for "off road use only", that's another ticket. i know we used to have to buy em from powerbulbs and other european places. do they sell bluevisions here in US?
I highly doubt that a cop would make such a big deal about a intake....
if they are sooo illegal, why dont they just go to the businesses and tell them to quit selling them? I dont know where in the world this was started, but intakes are not illegal....if it is carb exemt, it meets all of the DOT rules for emissions etc....
and as for the noise pullution....intakes are not even loud....only if you are running intake throttle bodies will it become LOUD, and if you dont step on the gas hard, the cops will NEVER KNOW....

yup, all i know is that, in SD, they pull you over for the stupidest reason..just to mess with you. for example: exhaust too loud...wtf is that? so when some mustang with flowmasters drive through its not as loud as our cars if not louder? whatever, its just cuz we drive the imports. on top of that, most cops are idiots, if the pop your hood, all they can say thats illegal is your intake, cuz thats all they know. the entire motor can be illegal, but they'll bust you for a stupid intake
. rediculous but true.

As long as you have the CARB sticker under the hood the equipment is legal. Cat-back exhaust systems are not even subject to CARB regulations because they are behind the cats and do not affect emissions. There are noise regulations, I think it changes from county to county so that's about all they could bust you for and its not like they carry around a DB meter and ask you to do a WOT fly-by at 30 ft away. There are usually regulations like 'no louder than 92Db from 30 feet at wide open throttle' I think the rules are kind of ambiguous, though. If the cops are ticketing you for emission control equipment and your is legal you should contest the ticket.

Damn, Im glad i live in texas. ive never had those problems in the past 7 years. sucks to be in cali..and to think i was gonna move over there for college...lol. I remember when they first said that the clear lights were illegal when they first came out and we all fought about it and went to the newspaper and made a comment on it and what do you know..it was never a issue again here in ft.worth.

god California SUCKS.. Can't do anything here, It's complete bullshit really and cops really do single you out, I was following a friend at a stop light one time.. And he decided he'd peel out on a right turn ( he has a 68 mustang) and chirp the tires, I follow him going the speed limit and i see some ******* on my *** (Ironic? I think not..) I speed up to get him off me and I saw the lights in my rearview. So, I pulled over and I had my window down so he stopped by me and talked to me through the window he said "I saw you burn out infront of Orange street, Why the hell would you even do that?" and I said "Sir, I can't burn out in my car the way 'he did' my car is front wheel drive, it won't match up with the tire marks on the street." he then replied with "I KNOW what Acuras can do, I own one." I'm like "What the hell is with this guy? I was going the speed limit, I didn't burn out.." then he said "Okay, I'll let you go." and drove off.. *******
