I have a 1997 Civic EX. Yesterday I got it aligned and camber adjusted with 15's on the front and 18's on the back. Will it mess up my camber or alignment if I put 18's on the front? People keep telling me different things. I was afraid of my 18's rubbing so I didn't put em on the front.

 

i honestly don't have an answer for you... but i will forwarn you that you're going to get flamed for the 18's...

edit: whenever you change anything w/ your chassis, rims, etc... its a good idea to get an alignment. but i did a complete ctr 5 lug swap w/ tons of other ****, car's not dog leggin, cambers a bit extreme in the rear, but i'm waiting on shorter lca's. i haven't gotten aligned and i don't have any odd tire wear and the car doesn't pull either way. i did the best i could w/ the good ol' "eye alignment".

 

I would say that there is a good chance that you will have to get it re-aligned because of the drastic wheel differences. Put the 18s on and find out....

I believe that is why he had 15s on the front.....still it makes no sense.

 

What's wrong with 18's? *senses that he's gonna get flamed*

2 days ago I put my camber kit and shocks/struts on. When i drove around, my alignment was f*ed up like crazy. My car was basically trying to drive left and right at the same time. If you looked at my front tires from an aerial view, instead of being like:

| |, they were \ / &lt;-front

| |.................| | &lt;-rear

Someone had told me it didn't matter what size my rims were when I got my alignment so I put on my 15's just to keep my 18's safe, but now I'm hearing different answers.

 

well im not flaming on this get 18s if u want but if u r afraid of rubbing what is the point of having them?

i didnt understand that u were afraid of rubbing if so put the 18s on and i hope u got adjustable shocks so raise and stiffen it up

If it doesn't work out I'll just get smaller rims.

 

These rims are heavy as hell. What kinda rims do you guys think would look good on it?

 

I would serious get some Mugen MF8 in 16" silver

If not Mugen get some Rota Circuit 8 16" Silver they look the same the bronze ones might even look good. Thew black with polished lip could look real sik

He would look like 99% of the people on here after that. I say get some Volks if he wants a lighter 18'' wheel.

so apperntly 99% of people on here have real mugen wheels or volks?

your alignment settings are determined by your suspension components-your wheels/tires have no effect on them.

BTW-if you want 18s on your car,do it.don't worry about what all these guys on here say about it-two years ago they were probably sporting 18s and a body kit too until the new trend was to be a supa JDM *****.if the new trend was 18s they'd have em too.it's your car,do what makes you happy.it's actually nice to see a non cookie-cutter car.

i do what the **** i want i put 15s on cuz i like them and it serves my purpose my purpose is not to get a good looking car. if the trend goes back to 18s im not switching if you do that is lame. i dont have anything against 18s besides shitting ride quality and its harsher than need on a honda. either way 15s and jdm scence is not a fad its the right way to do cars

usualy with 18's you have to run a real small sidewall, 35 or 40 series profile to try and get ur wheel/tire combo close to the same overal diameter as ur stock wheels. otherwise you look like a jeep.

theres no room for the tire to flex or move when hitting bumps with such a small profile. it ooffers a more harsh ride or shitty ride.


to answer ur question about the alignment..

i dont think the overall size of the wheel and tire matter, just make sure the tires are in good condition. if u get ur **** aligned with bald *** camber worn tires, and then u throw some nice brand new ones on it, id expect some things (toe, camber) to be a lil off.

 

look at how paper thin those tires are... one pothole and bam...

the weight of those 18s will negatively effect handling as well as gas mileage and overall acceleration. plus sizing wheels only benefits performance to a certain degree before it starts having adverse effects.

is there even an 18" tire that is the same diameter as the stock setup?

 

if your car came with 195/55-15 the overall diameter is 23.44"

some 18's.. with 215/40-18's the overall diameter is 24.7" or you could use some 215/35-18 which would be 23.92".

the 35 series profile would be alot closer to stock, but alot more sketch on a bumpy road.

 

Mine are 35 profile. Does anyone know the weight of these TSW 18" Alpine rims? Will the effect on my gas mileage be THAT noticeable?

 

i'm not entirely sure, but wouldn't the wheel/tire size effect the alignment slightly? at least in the case where the overall diameter changes. with 18s, it'd be bigger, and therefore raise your car up a bit. with double wishbone suspensions, the effect would be that you gain some positive camber.

these are all very slight changes, but changes regardless.

i believe those rims are actaully called TSW Trophy's.

the 15x7 version is 19lbs.. so i cant imagine what urs are. i guessing 28-29 lbs. Ouch, thats sooo heavy. ur car must feel really sluggish.

 

i thought 14 lbs were bad
