Default GEAR GRINDING!!!!

on my way home from school, i shifted from 1st to 2nd at about 4k rpm and trying to engage into 2nd, and as i let off the clutch, i guess the shifter wasnt fully in 2nd gear, and i heard this massive grind (louder than the linkin park md that i was bumping) and the rpm's suddenly rose past redline.....the question is, did i do anything to my car? thanks in advance...
