Default anyone here running a skunk2 exhaust?

i'm looking at a cat-back system on modacar.com
how are they? what size pipe do they come with??
how do they sound and is there any noticeable difference in throttle responce?

modacar claims an 8hp gain. any truth to that?

(i did a search and couldn't find anything)

I have a skunk2. It's nice. It's loud. It's 60mm (2.36inch) piping.

I found a noticeable difference but I added a header and an intake at the same time.

I didn't do any dyno runs either. I did however see in an issue of import tuner they got 7hp off just the exhaust on a 97 GS-R.

As far as power gains go, no exhaust is going to really do much on a stock motor. I/H/E are just bottlenecks you need to deal with so that when you do things like valvetrains, engine internals, or forced induction, you get a lot better flow and the large gains you get with those things will be amplified.

I think it's the nicest sounding exhaust I've heard for a B18C. It can be quite loud though. This annoys some people (including me sometimes) and then also some (ignorant) people say it sounds like an "angry bee" or like your typical ricer fartcan, which it does not.

I plan on recording some sound clips because the one on team-integra is pretty poor quality and it annoys me when people bash the exhaust when they obviously haven't heard it.

I have the Skunk2. A nice exhaust. I believe it is a bolt on to the stock cat but I did a high flow at the same time so don't take my word for that.

But as for it being loud. It is a little loud but it comes with a silencer. That silencer is nice. People complain that it restricts your exhaust and creates backpressure hence restricts your power, but with a stock or even slightly modified engine your lack of backpressure will actually have you losing power.

I run the silencer all the time except shows and at the track.

Yep, highly doubtful. I bought mine before I discovered honda-tech. Still a good exhaust for the money, would probably buy it again given the choice.

The only reason you would lose power from too little back pressure is if the exhaust was too big and let the air expand and cool too quickly. This would mean there wouldn't be nearly as much resistance trying to get the air out, but the engine would have to push much more air mass out the end of the exhaust.

Gains from the skunk2 with a resonator are pretty much non-existant. It has a moderate piping diameter (60mm) and nice bends. You aren't gonna lose power with it, and you will be making more than with the resonator in.

I stand corrected. But that is another thing that I liked about the Skunk2. And it might be this way for all exhaust systems, but the Skunk2 came with a built in resonator and the option of the silencer.

All show and no go for me.

i'm a little confused with this statement.
you say there wont be any gains with a resonator but there will be more with the resonator in.

He's saying with the optional silencer, you will lose power because the exhaust is correctly sized for the application.

You may actually want to try asking that in the type R forum. There seem to be a lot of canadian type-R owners which even they themselves admit.

A test pipe replaces your catalytic converter.
They are either a staight pipe or resonated
If you have OBDII, before you switch out your cat with a TP make sure and get an O2 sim chip

I think they do make a full stainless steel version, but on modacar they only sell the one which has a stainless steel muffler and resonator, and the piping looks like it's just steel that's been powder coated or something.

I bought mine from modacar and it is all stainless.
Just the resonator and the muffler are polished.

I will give you a silencer from my skunk2 exhaust if you send me a call tag from UPS or Fedex.
