Track Your R with your cell phone if it is stolen.
If you can do w/o your phone at night or whenever you fear theft of your R, hide your cell phone in your car and let your provider track it for you if stolen. My NEXTEL has that GPS tracker if I need it. Cheap and effective way to catch thieves and retrieve your ride.
Whenever you fear theft eh?? So all of you R owners will be gettin an extra NEXTEL, putting it in the spare well and hardwiring the charger to the car...

LOL, yes it would, hehe.
That's a good idea I guess...but isn't the extreme temperature range kill a cell phone battery pretty quickly?

Are you sure that GPS isn't what all phone providers are supposed to have soon...
It's based on position w/regards to the towers, not satellites. It's designed to pinpoint emergency call locations, much like land lines do already. This will not be effective in tracking your car unfortunately.

Correct. This is old technology, but you have to be signed up for it. Basically what it's used for is road side assistance. Ideally it's used for a situation where your car breaks down and you are in the middle of nowhere and can't give direction to where you are. Most people don't have it because of fear that it's a government conspiracy

GPS is the acronym for Global Positioning Satellites (sometimes system). The new cellular phone technology coming out is GSM. However, most cell phone providers will be able to better track locations based on the new GSM towers (i have no idea why..i dont know much more about them).
Just a tidbit of info as all...damn i need to goto bed.

They theoretically would be able to track the phone to within a few miles, dewpending on how the towers are placed. Might as well invest in something else.
i think lojack is better...by the time you buy a phone, get a monthly plan and all that you'll be at a 300-400 a yr easily. lowjack is a lil under a grand so more than well worth it
GSM is not new cell technology, Cingular and ATT use this kind of signal while VerizonWireless and Sprint use a far better signal called CDMA. The GPS chip inside all new phones are for emergency 911 tracking purposes only so they wouldn't be able to pinpoint your car for you if it get's jacked with your cell phone in it
Try Boomerang:
http://www.boomerangtracking.com/
Already well established in Canada, they already have presence in the west coast.
AVAILABLE IN CALIFORNIA :D
$200 off if you have lo-jack already (limited time offer). (so about $700 or so) no need to wait for the police to find your car because they have their own tracking team. once found, then call the police and bring in the cavalry. (devil) monitor plans are reasonable
Anyone who is interested in boomerang, let me know
Another neat product is from "Network car"

Boomerang provides the same coverage as well.

Boomerang guarantees as long as you have the device in your car (using GSM)
-LoJack owners may be eligible for insurance discounts. Click here to see insurance information for your state.
Boomerang does it as well. I called AAA insurance and they don't care what "vehicle recovery" system you get. You only get 1 discount (so you can't get both systems and get more discounts :B) This will vary from insurance company to insurance company.

boomarang for this itr owner, as well as clifford alarm and electronic hoodlock.
If I had a complaint with boomarang, it would be that they are to quick to jump the gun. They have tracked me down twice because they lost the signal. This has since been fixed.
