Default Just put in my VAFC and now i have a weird idle o.0

First off i followed Toms thread on wiring up the VAFC step by step and followed the diagram so i dont think its wiring, but i could be wrong.

After i installed it and turned on the car i get this weird idle, like the car is bogging. From my knowledge (or atleast what the guy i bought it from told me) i resetted the settings (etc - initalizing (or whatever that is) - YES). Is that the right way to reset everything?

Whenever i unplug the VAFC i get my old good normal idle like before but i get a CEL (for VTEC and MAP sensor) When i plug it back in i get no codes but that weird bogging and it feels weird just reving to 3k. Can someone help me out?

Cliff notes for the extremely lazy: Wired up VAFC, turned on car, weird idle. Unplug VAFC, turn on car, no weird idle but CEL for VTEC and MAP Sensor

TIA.

Wouldn't you get the CEL for the MAP sensor because you have to tap into it for the VAFC and your ECM isn't getting a MAP signal at all?

As far as the rough idle I don't know. Might want to try and see if all of the settings are actually set back to 0. Esepcially the fuel map stuff.

Im about to go outside and play with the settings a little.

But when i check on my pressure it says: Press. +0.12 kg/cm(?)

Is that suppose to be like that at idle?

sorry for the newbie question but whats ECM? Do you mean ECU? When the VAFC is plugged in i get no code for MAP but when its unplugged i do get a code for map.

Yes, the ECM is the ECU. It's called the Engine Control Module in the Helms, so that's what I've gotten into calling it lately.

As far as the pressure at idle I called a friend with one. It should be reading a negative pressure.

Make sure you have it "calibrated" is what he told me.

Did you follow the initial setup instructions that came with the VAFC? If not do that. Make sure you properly set the sensor numbers and the throttle direction(this is usally messed up when you "initialize") GoTo http://www.apexi.com and download the ownersmanual. Follow the initial setup and you will be fine.

so that +0.12 could be whats messing up my idle huh? What did he mean by calibrate it?

your pressure should always be in the negatives and at zero or close at WOT. only way you'll get it + pressure is if you're boosting. in the instructions they tell you to calibrate the throttle % by having it at WOT for 10 seconds and then at 0% throttle for 10 seconds. maybe that could be why you're idle is acting up.

Definately. It would make your car think it's at WOT all the time pretty much.

Yea the setting is for 4 cylinders.

I cant do the WOT for 10 seconds because my neighbors would get pissed and probably call the cops on me (wouldnt be the first time).

My pressure is now at +0.7(1) (it bounces back and forth). I tried resetting the pressure to 0 but the only pressure i could find would only go down to 760 mmhg and if i go up it would go to 1.0kg/cm2 and so forth.

Can someone give me a walk thru of how i should reset everything. Theres one part in the manuel that say to set the In and Out to 06 but when i did that the car shaked like crazy and threw a CEL. HELP!

Looks like you might have to wait until tomorrow then. You're going to have to do the WOT thing.

Well i got 1 thing fixed now i have another problem. But i think it might be just the wiring, let me know what you think?

I drove for about 5 mins and it bogged like crazy at 3k and wouldnt go any further without bogging some more. Then finally the car said **** you and died. When i unplug the VAFC the car runs in Limp Mode and when i plug the VAFC in it doesnt run at all.

Is that wiring? Thanks again.

Ok i just did the initial setup and noticed a couple of thing.

On the sensor check the manuel says they should be at:

Pres. 1.234V
Thrt: 1.254V
CDS: 4.075

But when i went to sensor check mine read.

Pres: 2.89
Thrt: .48
CDS: 4.93

How could i change that? And could that be whats causing all my damn problems? Thanks for the help so far guys i really appricate it.

I just double checked all my wires and they seem to be in the right place.

Although when i cut my VTM wire it disconnected from a wire to the engine. Is that suppose to be like that (my car was wired for a GSR in a 93 DX, so VTEC and everything was wired in). Also im not throwing any codes.

My pressure sensor is up to 2.89V when its suppose to be 1.23V how do i fix that?
