Default New Adjustable upper A-arm from SPC , camber AND caster

I was at International Auto Salon in SoCal this last weekend, here's something that I found interesting from the nice people at SPC:

1. adjustable caster
2. adjustable camber
3. cast aluminium3
4. available within a few months
5. retail of $180 each

Here are the picture:

Here's how they add in the caster, the bolt on the ball joint can be offset, square washer aligns it in the A-arm, and the ball joint can be turned to provide a different mounting offset...not the best description, but I hope that the picture is a little easier to understand:

Oh, its got just 1 bolt instead of 4.... wait that doesn't seem right.

Honestly thats the biggest issue I have with their design. I wouldn't be too excited about running the setup with only one bolt holding it, at least i can change the hardware on a skunk and lock all 4 down.

I have two issues:

1. Dave's issue. Serious slippage concerns. At least the Skunk2 piece has a relatively easy 'fix'.
2. PRICE.

Chris - who thanks Austin for the heads up, neat piece, just some concerns...

I am skeptical about the thread pitch and overall engagement height of the nut. The thread pitch looks too fine and may end up galling up with repeated adjustment over time. It obviously is that way because of clearance issues. The height of the ball joint assembly is taller because of the added adjustment of the eccentric joint. Low profile nuts should only be used in shear and that application is clearly a combination of shear and tension. A good rule of thumb for steel fasteners is that the height of the thread engagement should equal at least the diameter of the stud. Since they are using a finer thread, this may not apply. However, I would rather have a coarser thread (M12 x 1.25) with a 1D thread engagement than a fine thread and a 0.5D thread engagment. That is NOT a fastener that you can afford to fail on you. IMO, I would not buy this product without seeing others who auto-x/track their cars provide their response.

Appears to be a quality piece, but I share the aforementioned concerns.

ooooo those look interesting. Ill stick with the Junk2's for now though until others test them out.

Ryan, who could use caster adjustment because of a previous accident.

Has anyone played with the rumor that swapping upper arms from side to side increases caster? I always like having more info on hand

Fun, I thought it was factual. Just didn't want to come off like I was saying it works Thanks

I don't want to make everyone worry about this product because of what I said. I am sure that the product will work fine if it is adjusted and maintained in one configuration for an indefinite amount of time. However, what I am worried about is not the product but the user. The more and more you mess with things the more it gets worn out. If you have a weekend racer continually altering the camber and caster the parts will wear out quicker. That is what I am worried about. If you set it and leave it and use some loctite, I am sure that you will be fine. This should apply to 95% percent of the users who just need the adjustment to correct for a drop or an accident and don't auto-x/track on a regular basis.

You can`t compare SPC and Skunk. Two totally different leagues.

but are those weekend racers going to want to drop $360 on it?

i guess that's still my biggest concern.. paying a lot for a product that could fail on track..
