OT: Cox communications is screwing over SpeedTV fans in OC California!
We switched from cable to dishnetwork. Saved $$, and couldn't be happier with the decision.
We also switched from cable internet to DSL. That decision saved more $$, and has me dancing a little jig everytime I download a big file because it's literally 10x faster for the same price.

weird you must have had a really slow cable connection then. I don't know of any DSL service that's faster than my cable . . . .
I generally get over 2 MBPS

We paid for the "slower" connection. The faster connection cost an extra $10 per month. With DSL, we get the same connection speed as the more expensive "fast" cable connection. At least that's how they priced it around here.

I pay 45 a month for my internet (cable) and 45 for my digital cable TV with ON-Demand and I couldn't be happier.
My Cable modem has a latency of less then 40ms sometimes sub 20ms and has an average D/L speed over over 2.5MBPS.

the fastest of the fast DSL still isn't anywhere near 2mbps. More like 800kbps. Either way. I pay $40 for basic cable and $40 for cable modem. I also have my phone service through ***, so if I cancel cable, I can still pay the lower ($40) rate for cable modem. So I'm gonna probably say
to cable and get me DTV with Tivo for $45/month and free install (free TiVo DVR too!)

We got the "fast" ($40) cable connection for a week or two for free when we first signed up. In that time, I *never* saw download speeds exceed 200k per second. When we switched to the slower speed ($30), dl rates were in the 15k per second range. Pathetic...
DSL gets me a consistent 180-200kps download rate for $29.95 a month.

I subscribe to all the channels. They get over $100 per month from me. I think I'll cancel next month just because of this speed bs. I can always get tapes of the f1 races from friends. I think the only voting these *** guys understand is when you vote with your wallet. I doubt any petition is going to sway them. I'll be sure to mention to them the reason I'm leaving.

fyi for you guys..
When a company says you have a 2mbs connection the "b" is for "Bits" Line speeds are always in "Bits"
there are 8 bits in a byte.
Download speeds are calulated in bytes..
if you are downloading a file at 2mbs that is equivilent to 250 Kb/s (or technically 244.14 kb/s)
(I'm a network engineer)
edit - also don't necessarily trust what windows tells you. test your bandwidth with a website like bandwidthplace.com

I did. I usually get right around 2.5 megabits per second on my cable modem.
Here at work I'm getting around 2.7 megabits per second.
