how long does it take to replace a lock cylinder???
this place my sister works for has had my car for 3 days and it only needs the lock cylinder replaced. The part was supposed to be shipped next-day air on Monday for a tuesday repair. They didnt send it out until yesterday for todays delivery and now they dont know if they can have it done by tonite. Is this a tedious task or something? I figured it would be a 1 hour job at most.
door lock cylinder?
well about 1 minute to take off the door panel
10 seconds to unhook the rods from the lock
5 seconds to undo the clip from the back of the lock cylinder
reverse removal procedure: add 2 minutes onto time
so all in all, five minutes?

lol... WTF... just got told it wont be done till tomorrow... 4 days for an ignition lock cylinder to get replaced
I just replaced an ignition lock in a corolla, and it SHOULD have taken about 20 mins. If the ignition is on the steering column, take off the "molding" that goes around the column. Take the key, and turn the ignition to the ACC position(make sure you disconnect the battery). Once the key is turned, there is a little button on the bottom of the cylinder housing. Push in that button with a punch or something, and pull on the key. The whole lock cylinder should come out with the key. Then just take the new one, and slide it in. The keys wonlt match, but at least she can drive the car. All she will have to do, is take the cylinder to a locksmith with the OLD key, and have them change the cylinder to accept the old key. Very easy IMO. Any ?s, feel free to IM me.

that's in the right direction except for the ACC position, you leave it at "O" position. remove the lower molding since it's attached to the upper molding with clips. once that's remove there's two screws that holds the ignition switch in place, remove that and the 7-pin harness. next remove the other two screws that's holding the lock cylinder in place.
takes about 5 mins max to do. not 3 days
btw the cylinder lock and ignition switch is only sold as one unit. not seperate, that's how I found out. the whole thing costed me $300 if I actually did buy it.
