Default Need help w/ new car buying...

So, i'm thinking about selling my car but i want to see what all of the other present and past honda owners are driving... besides hondas!

I'm thinking about a GTI VR6, or an audi, or a BMW... something less than 10k, but still nice, and most importantly reliable. the car will remain STOCK for a while(until i finish school), then after that I'll either sell it, or start modding it.

any ideas are much apprciated!

yea i was thinking about an A4... some people dont like them, and some people love them.. i guess its the same with any car though, everyone is always going to have their own opinion about it.

i'm definantly leaning towards a 1996 A4 right now though. i want something thats newer than a 95, looks good, is COMFORTABLE, reliable, and still fun to drive.... oh yea, i want something with a sunroof too.

A 96 a4 under 10k? Realiable? I love a4's but I dont see those two going hand in hand. I may be wrong... i have no clue what prices are going for used audi's.

May I ask why you want to get rid of your hx?

Edit: Just saw this:

i've found quite a few 96's for around $9k, with 70k miles on them... i love the rims that come on the 96's .. the climate control is a plus, along with the sunroof, and leather... and their stance is so sexy...

anyway, i've heard a LOT of mixed emotions about A4's... some people love them and some people hate them... but like i said earlier, thats true with any car.

ive bounced from honda to vw to bmw and then back. all i can say is i should of never attempted to leave hondas.

i had a '97 vw vr6 gti with only 50k on it. after a few months of driving it, it needed a new clutch, timing belt, water pump, and valve cover gasket. i had to order the parts straight from vw and it alot of money. it was pretty decent, it ran 14s with a chip and intake but the shifter felt like a truck shifter.

anyways, bottom line. when **** breaks on a honda you come straight to honda-tech and find your part for next to nothing. when **** breaks on a german car, expect to pay that german price tag.

good luck with the search though. if you plan on buying a fairly new car in good shape you should have problems.

First choice

Find an E30 M3 or just a regular E30. BTW...I know someone that could hook you up with BMW parts also

Pic is not mine. I got the pic from a google search from http://www.bayareamotorsports.com.

my girl has a 96 a4 2.8....its cool..not the greatest car, but it has decent torque of course and seems to run out of breathing room up top...

if you like doing maintenance yourself, be prepared to remove every cover in the world just to get to one thing....

hard to work on...she said something like she couldnt get the oil changed at a regular place because of the covers....and i dont want to touch it cause of that reason, overall its a pretty nice car...doesnt compare to a honda maintenance wise though...im glad she still has a hatch...

thanks man

Out of the cars you chose, the only one I see as being any close to reliable to a Honda is the old bmw (and that's still not even close). Other then that if your looking for reliabilty you know better, Honda stomps on those cars for it's reliability. I owned a 02 GTI 1.8T and I started hating it because of the bullshit problems, guess what, I bought a 93 Civic CX, maybe that was too much of a downgrade so I just bought my GSR instead. Basically the only German car I will ever buy in my life would be a brand new Porshce of some sort, the other companies can chew my *****. My $.02

If you wanna spend 9-10k get a 94-97 GSR in awesome condition.

They are pretty rare. I have only seen like 3 at my work and one of them is owned by a guy that works with me. I would say if you wanted a BMW, get a regular E30. You can find them cheap and they seem easy to work on. I almost bought one for $500. It had a couple dents and the interior was OK. The only thing was it was an automatic.

yea i definantly want to find a manual... seems like all the german cars i've been looking at are autos!!! which i HATE

but i'm keeping my options open... one MAJOR determing factor will be how much insurance is for the car. just for a civic hx, i'm paying $190/month, so i'm sure a GSR would be quite a bit more.... so would the a4 though.

i'm against audi...big time....

You can't do alot of the regualr maintenance your self. Let alone it's twice as hard to do the simple things, oil change no longer is 20 min, it takes 20min to get to the drain plug. My sister has one and It's just a pain to do or get anything for the car (aftermark stereo included)...

I'd stick with the BMW thoughts...

Another thing you might want to consider is theft here in phoenix. a gsr would be high on the list for theft.
