Default how do i know if my auto tranny is going bad?

im starting to get this wierd clanking sound and suspect my tranny. ive tried to put my ear to everything in the car.. but i cant pinpoint the sound. the clanking sound happens intermittently in "P" and at low speed low rpm situations. my tranny is not slipping yet. also i have no tranny cooler.

btw the clanking sorta sounds like a few small chunks of metal in a washing machine.

Well wherever that sound is coming from, it can't be good. Can you trace the sound to the tranny?

now that the sound got louder, it seems like its coming from inside ok the cat. after my turbo install, the cat got red hot, until i got it tuned.

my friend at work says, the elements inside the cat are made up of ceramic stuff and break down under high heat, and that may be the cause of the rattling. does this sound familiar? anyway... ill be taking it off and emptying it out tonite. hopefully that is the cause of this strange noise.

... why did you turbo out a slowamatic? you should of used the money to swap from a auto to a 5speed... anyway, i shouldnt judge you, you can do what wish to your car. take the cat out and str pipe it~

forget all the sounds you hear, how does the trans feel when it shifts into gear?

if you did have trouble with the tranny, there would be shifting problems... and eventually, yours will have problems because autos on hondas were never supposed to have the stress they get from a turbo.
