What exhaust for a 2001 ITR?
I just bought my 2001 Type R about 3 weeks ago. It is all stock except for an AEM Performance intake and a short shifter. Im now looking at exhausts but am not sure which to get. Right now im primarily looking at the Skunk2 exhaust but have not heard much about it nor have i actually seen it on a Type R. I was also thinking of the Mugen Twin Loop but that is really more money then i am wanting to spend at the moment (having just dropped a lot on the car itself). Any thoughts on the Skunk2 or any other exhaust that would give me power and style? Thanks.

Does the t1r exhaust bolt up to the carsound cat?

I'd imagine so. It bolts directly to OE peices, and the stock cat.

My setup is JDM 4-1, 2.5" test-pipe and Greddy EVO2.. It is loud. I need to replace the test pipe with a cat soon to get the decibels down a bit ..

92TypeR: was there a video of you racing a evo w/ JIC exhaust?
also what are the differences between DC JDM 4-1 vs. JDM 4-1 besides the fact that DC is true 2.5"
also what are advantages of steel or ceramic besides that ceramic provides better heat resistance and is lighter. thanks

If i would get another exhaust it would be the Fujitsubo RM-01A... lightweight, no bottlenecks, not overly loud. If you really want the best performance, save up for a full exhaust system from Hytech or SMSP.

Where the collector meets on the DC has better flow.

SS will last forever if maintained correctly. Ceramic will start to crack and chip over time.

Excellent systems, but I still think when comparing just catbacks, there will be little to no power difference between the T1R, HyTech or SMS.

SMSP or Fujitsubo RM-01A or Mugen my vote if you're buying from off the shelf.
Or custom if you have a capable exhaust shop in your area that can weld properly and do mandrel bends.

Leave it stock. I don't see a point getting an exhaust before you get a better flowing header. Buy a header and you'll see A LOT more hp gain throughout the powerbadn than a lousy exhaust.

Yes, although just buying a 2.5" outlet header won't net you a lot of power if the rest of the exhaust is stock

The one your looking at is the fujitsubo power getter, don't know the performance on that one. But the one i got is the fujitsubo rm-o1a and that starts from the cat and back.
I have a JDM Mugen Twin loop. I had a custom 3" straight axle back made to put on when I race. It's freaking loud with the 3", but it's not quite finished yet. It's all stainless and TIG welded. The shop is really good and the welds are almost invisible.
