Default Q's on wiring a racecar

When simplifying a wiring harness on a race car, I want to retain the engine harness, and the ECU part of the main harness. Fuel, Ignition, ECU, Lights, etc will be wired independantly of the original ECU harness. My question is, can everything but the ECU harness be eliminated as long as the fuel pump, ECU and ignition have power, or is the ECU dependant of the PGMFI relay?

Also, for anyone who has done wiring on a DC, on the 14 pin connector (C304 and C127 I believe) on the drivers side firewall in the engine compartment, do the injector wires (pins 1-5 on ECU connector A) lead back to the ECU harness clip through the interior side of the firewall or the exterior side of the firewall?

well as a matter of fact, i have a gutted harness. my turn signals, tach, fuel level indicator (if i had a fuel tank), parkin lights, brake lights, clutch safety switch and speedo still work. ill b honest though, its alot of work, alot of wasted time for the little weight that gets shaved.
