What do you need for 200 whp on a H22a?
Not many people have done it on a street setup. If you want to stay NA, it will definitely involve some cams and headwork. You would probably need cams that are more aggressive than the Type-S cams... Although I believe Sun may have actually exceeded 200whp with modified TypeS cams and some extensive port and polish work on the head.

hey whats up JG lude? how much power are you making?? about 230?
hey email me if you can, i'm a big fan of prelude motor and it looks like you and i would have the same setup soon, but with different pistons, rods, and cams.

my 2.2 hit 196 with a stock bottom, stock cams and w/ a cat, ac, ps

Type s pistons [11:1 c/r]
Spoon headgasket, good for another 0.2 point of compression
Cams and valvetrain [skunk2, crower, jun??, you pick]
A good set of headers [i.e. mugen, sms, hytech, etc.]
obd1 conversion w/ reprogrammed ecu
headwork
exhaust [diameter ??]
intake
Accord type r manifold, or reworked stock manifold
test pipe
Ported throttle body
That should put you close to the 200 whp mark?
My 99 base model dynoed at 165hp and 138tq /w greddy exhaust, stock intake w/ remover resonator and k&n drop-in filter, and a so, so dc header, so, and added 35whp shouldn't be impossible w/ an n/a setup.

My car dynoed at ~183hp and ~150tq w/ aem cai, dc sports 4-2-1, unorthodox 3 pulleys, skunk2 cam gears, apexi n1 exhaust sys. and v-afc.
Now i have a rebuilt head (no bent valves, titanium internals) crower stage 2 camshafts, fidanza 7.5lb flywheel, act stage 2 clutch...
i wonder if i'm around 200hp
i THINK i should be...................but who knows
i haven't run it at the track yet..........i just got my car back from the shop today with the cams. I need to break them in first....heh

how did you get 183 hp and 150 tq with so little mods. From what i know stock prelude sh dyno at 155 hp with about 130-132 tq. That means you managed to extract 28 hp to the wheels and 20 pounds of torque from the mods you said. That is hugeFrom what i have i have 171 and im a base model as well. i managed 11 hp over stock which is average. You said you have
AEM intake ( 5hp)
Headers (2hp)
Exhaust (3hp)
Pulleys (3hp)
Vafc(2-3 hp)
with all that it only comes out to about 15 hp to the wheels and probably less than a 10 tq difference. You must of had some other mods. What else did you have? OBDI swap? straight pipe? Cat?

are you all tuning your cam gears and V-AFC on a dyno? that's the key to your motor... most people don't bother tuning it... but i've seen many cars yield substantial gains with a properly-tuned V-AFC... i myself gained about 4hp at 5K rpm, 8hp at 5.5K rpm, and 12hp at 6K rpm... but then again i do have a different motor...
by the way we tested and confirmed 9WHP of gains with a simple Greddy EVO cat back exhaust on a 2000 base 5mt prelude ..
he went up from 160 to 169HP
and only changed the exhaust..
so i think that's not bad at all

If you are in Maryland you know of Altered Atmosphere in Rockville/Gaithersburg
I went there, they ran the v-afc on the dyno 12 times..............and then the cam gears (which were done earlier) they ran it 5 times....maybe 6-7 i can't remember exaclty. They showed me the dyno results on the graph..i had the 183hp and 150tq
I mean, i had these cam gears and v-afc tuned on the dyno for cheap b/c i had a given them some good business and the owner hooked me up a little.
So, like i said, i hope i'm near 200whp with the cams and what not.
I took it out last nite and was driving it around (after cams you need to re-tune vafc and cam gears...set everything to zero) and i richened it up...just as engine builder said to, car ran great, power is phenominal!
Vtec slams like a ****, the engine sounds a little different as you can hear the lobes smacking a little harder.
And the best part is i can use the JRSC with these!!! Dial out overlap with cam gears and i'm good to go. I talked to Jackson racing, and crower.......and the race car builder that works on my car, all of them say it WILL work.
Nice to have "special grinds" hahah

I had my 2nd dyno tuning session done on my car in May by Altered, and I was not impressed with their work. 1) They didn't set my car up on the dyno until almost 90 minutes after my appt time (and there was no one else waiting to have work done)... plus between dyno runs, the tuner would disappear for extended periods of time... Honestly, I really just felt blown off, and the powercurve was unimpressive (but I really can't blame Altered for that). Now, my first dyno run was done up at EIP in August '99... Their dyno tuning cost is lower, and their staff focused on the job at hand. They did a good job at tuning my car, and their NOS was cheap! ($3 / lb.)
I doubt I will ever take my car back to Altered to have their staff tune my car, but I am going there early Saturday morning to have someone I trust (James @ CDE) do my tuning, and my NOS tuning!

ACT are great but its mostly for full race motors. some of my friends has ACT, and they ran into some problems. such as they make nosie, and it could possible break your diff. on the tranny
yeah clutch master is pretty good. On the clutch try to get dual springs anything with dual springs would be good for daily. so this doesn't just let the disc grab the pressure plate so damn hard... because when it grab so damn hard all that pressure goes to your diff. on the tranny, thats why its possible to mess up things. such as motor mounts, axles, and diff. and maybe in the long run would eat out your flywheel pretty nasty.
sorry i'm not so good at explaining things but i gave a try. hope you understand it
