P13 vs. Hondata
Is the P13 ECU the best ECU for the H22A4 or is the minor investment in the purchase of a Hondata system worthwhile....hmmmmm?
Often times the self-proclaimed guru's have tossed out stand alone names such as Hondata and AEM opposed to the P13 or the JDM ECUs'.
Anyone care to comment on prior/present experiences?
I'm in the market for a computer for my H22A4 swap and am curious who has found the best results, success, and best dyno numbers and with what!

Yeah, even on a bone-stock engine, programmable engine management is capable of making more power than the stock ECU -- assuming it's tuned well, of course.
Hondata has a few dyno graphs on their website that show their system on otherwise stock engines, making more power.

Hondata defintiely accompishes what they claim to a degree but by no means is their system as intricate as the AEM unit.
With all that said, is the Hondata system still a good investment for the daily pavement punisher...sure!

I don't exactly understand what you're asking in this post?
Hondata is better than AEM for a street driven Honda/Acura. You don't need the bells and whistles on the AEM unit, and getting an AEM to run as good as a Hondata takes significantly more time.
We've managed to make an additional ~25 peak whp on a bone stock H22 with an intake, header and Hondata. The Hondata was probably about 12 of that (made the fuel less rich and added some timing)......the powerband was also MUCH better.

No self proclaimed guru will ever declare a P13 better than Hondata. This is why:
Not to add to the confusion, but P13 fuel maps ARE NOT MODIFIABLE. At least not to the point where tuning becomes an option. You can change the numbers in hex, but no one can generate the formula that shows WHAT you're changing. You can do a diff on a stock ECU bin against the Spoon bin and see where the fuel tables are changed, but so far I can't extrapolate anything other than values.
Hondata is going to be the ONLY way to tune an H22A correctly unfortunately. There are only 3 custom chips for a P13:
Spoon (5000 Vtec, 8500 redline, moderate timings and fuel map)
KS-ROM (5500 Vtec, 9000 redline, aggressive fuel maps)
Mugen (5500 Vtec, 9200(!) redline, extreme fuel maps)
Stock JDM (5200 vtec, 7700 redline, stock fuel maps...ask a 4th gen driver)
I recommend only the Spoon chip unless you have a VAFC, A/F meter, WB O2, and don't mind tuning the crap out of it. A ROM burner would be a good idea, but unfortunately no known software package can open and successfully read a P13. You'll be doing everything in hex.
Get the hondata, save yourself the 200 bucks + 20 bucks for a chip + 100 bucks for a ROM burner + countless hours of banging your head against a wall.
