still failing emissions
I posted a while back about my jdm h22 failing emissions badly. It still will not pass on hydrocarbons. I have done everything you could imagine. I was wondering if the ECU could be bad. I have a JDM P13. I dont really think that would do it. I have got to pass. Co2 passes fine, no problems. Someone told me to unplug one of the injectors right before i pull in and then plug it back as soon as everything is over. Anyone ever heard of this? He works for honda, but i dont know whether or not to trust him. I dont care if it only passes one time, i just want to finally get my car registered and get tags on it. PLEASE HELP!!!!

what have you done so far? tried a tune up? btw i dont think unplugging the injector will work since u probably wont pass visual and itll prolly cause a misfire raising your emissions even more...how badly are you failing in the HC part
do you have to have the car on the treadmill, i dont know about 4th gens but i know 5th gens they just plug something in and read from the ECU correct???
anyway, if you have to get on the treadmill, this is what i did to get around it , i own a 3rd gen with the dreadfull oil burning B21A1. im riding on Neuspeed race spring, and my car is extremely low, when i went to the emissions place, they looked under my car, and said it was too low and would possible damage my car or their equipment by putting my car one, so they just passed me for 2 years.
its bootleg, but **** dude it worked like a charm
im assuming that because you have a JDM motor that there is no EGR and thats whats causing the failing emissions. right?

if they dont care and just want to pass you, take out your intake and while the test is running spray in 1 spray of water from a squirt bottle every 5 seconds while theyre doing the test, emissions will go way low, otherwise, rubbing alcohol in the gas tank, the less gas the better to make higher % alcohol but dont go too far
im having the same problem, blowing 750 with a jdm 95 h22a...i have done everything ,tune up all, changed everything...cant pas how can you tell if the ECU has messed up?? another thing can a APEXI fuel/vtec controller help it out passing any??

when i took my h23vtec in for emissions, didnt pass either. I was high on Hydro carbon and carbon mon.
I changed the spark plugs, fuel filter, and oxygen sensor and it passed...emissions was real low.
Think my oxygen sensor may have been bad.

if the O2 is bad, then wont it throw the code. And the cat mostly has to do with Co2. I have tried alcohol in the tank, making vaccum leaks, tuning up, all that good stuff. I am running around 600-700 hc's. I pass with flying colors on Co2. I cant figure this **** out and it is pissing me off. I am going to put another set of plugs in it. I just put some in there not too long ago.
i was thinking of trying an p14 non-vtec ecu and then seeing if it passes. where is the fuel filter located? doubt that is it though. it is the motor. I have had this motor in 2 different cars and it has done the same every since.
I can almost promise you that its that JDM P13 ECU. Plug your original computer and drive around for about 200 miles. Do some highway driving, and some street/traffic driving and you'll pass. That way the computer can run its cycle.
Its b/c the P13 doesnt control a lot of emissions stuff like the US version does.

i have an auto p14 but i do not think it would work. I would have to find out! I have been thinking in getting rid of my P13. if anyone wants a JDM P13, i may trade for a USDM P13!

They only can plug in OBD2.
Drive the car pretty hard before you get there. Then don't let the car idle for a while while you wait. See if they will let you take it up and down the road then take it right in. I'm not sure why you would be getting this problem because you should have a heated O2 sensor. It's when the o2 sensor gets cold it runs richer thus making you fail...

changed everything now...now i have a apexi control fuel/vtec control an its dropped me from a 700 to a 300...still high or limit is 220... i have a p13 jdm ecu where can i get a usdm one at??anyone trade me??
The catalytic converter will significantly drop HC. I had a 88 RX-7 with a test pipe smogged at 400ppm HC. I put the cat on and it dropped back to 118ppm. The cat is there to burn the unburned fuel. If you are this close, try running alcohol(youcan add isoheet, or one of those emissions passers) and they will drop you some. But you can also just lean the motor out a little more with you air/fuel controller. Just watch your NOx.
Also, unfortunately if the O2 sensor is bad throwing lean numbers it will not always trip a code.
