Toda clutch/flywheel and JDM final drive installed!!!!! My impressions......
So I finally got my toda clutch/flywheel and final drive put in (installation= $600).
Clutch feel is a little heavier than stock and feels much better. Car definately pulls
alot harder from the start. Car does not bog as much in lower rpms. It's like
VTEC is on all the time!!!
O.K. so maybe I'm exagerating a bit
, but there is a very noticeable increase
throughout the whole range. RPMS seems to shoot up really fast. But there is a
PROBLEM, RPMS go down to fast, so its a little harder to rev match, a little
harder to heel toe and I haven't tried shifting fast b/c I want to break in my clutch,
but I would suspect that it would be harder to keep it in VTEC. hopefully whenver
Jeff has another dyno day I could see the hp gains. Overall I am VERY VERY
HAPPY w/these mods, it's like driving a whole new car, and I may just scratch the
Hytech stuff. Oh yeah, one last thing is it necessary to your break in the clutch? I
tried to read the instructions, but it's in Japanese

You'll get use to the quicker revs for downshifting....if you ever get a chance to drive stock Rs after that, you'll wonder why Honda didn't fit the car with a ligher flywheel to begin with.
Most manufacturers recommend you take it easy for the 1st 500miles. After that, it's time to have some fun....!

I already have the Toda Flywheel and Cluth. Waiting for the FD to come out of being back ordered. That is the same setup I want, but it's on an Si. Just researching on what I actually need to convert to JDM FD on a 99 Si. I actually loved the fact it revved faster, but rev matching to me is much easier than before. Blip the throttle and shift down, perfect math all the time.
Can somone give me some help on this. I was told all I needed was the JDM FD, GS-R fifth(I drive to Austin alot, and don't want to be over 5Gs), and a B18C differential. But when I looked at the Hybrid Performance page, they have a whole bumch of other stuff they were replacing when they were installing it on a B18C. Any help on this would be great.

glad to hear you like this setup, I'll be going with it in a couple of weeks as well, so it makes me feel a little better!
thanks for the good review, no go out there and get to 500 miles so we can hear about it when you can beat on it

You should have no problem staying in VTEC when you shift. But my flywheel is stock and shaved only 3 lbs off it...so yours being a bit lighter might drop rpms a bit more then mine does....but i still think you will be fine...JDM FD kicks azz!

Your car will be producing the exact same amount of horsepower as before. Perhaps a little less drivetrain loss because of the lighter flywheel, but this may not be measurable.

Does the acceleration seem that much better with the JDM final drive?
I've driven a GSR with a Fidanza flywheel and an ACT street/strip clutch. It felt pretty damn good I must admit.
I'm trying to justify a flywheel/clutch/final drive in my car when I really don't need it (if it's not broke don't fix it analogy)

It took a while, but I finally broke in the clutch
I thought I was going to have
problems staying in VTEC but damn I was wrong!!!!!! The 1-2 shift is awesome,
where as my rpms usaully drop to 6900 rpms going into 2nd, now the rpms only
drop to 7100. Also before it would be hard for me to chirp in 3rd, now w/ the new
clutch it chirps in 3rd w/no problem and I actually get some wheel hop too.
Rob: the clutch/flywheel= $970(RandD motorsports), final drive= $485(Inline Four, I could have gotten it cheaper somewhere else, but they were the only place that had them in stock at the time) I know it's quite an expensive mod, but worth it. I used to have the mugen header and cat on my car, and I think that the flywheel/clutch and final drive is a much better mod, as w/ my mugen header you could only really feel the difference in higher rpms where as now I can feel the difference through out the whole range, or maybe it's b/c the rpms shoot up quicker.
itr1094:I got the full face clutch, If the full face clutch is this good, I wonder how good the 3 puck clutch is?
DC2-RATED: the change in rpms is not that bad and you get use to it. where as before my rpms in 5th used to be at ~3700 going 70 now its at ~4000.

Man i can't wait for my FD to come in. I still need to get the GS-R 5th gear from the dealer though! I am such a lazy ***. Oh well glad to hear it was a worthwhile mod!
