Default B16A in 90 civic hatch dx - no spark HELP

Ok, my roomate bought a friends 1990 Civic dx hatch that is already swapped with a 91 B16A but does not run. We replaced the distributor and it ran at idle for about 5 mins but threw code 21 (no vtec). We already knew that the vtec solenoid wasnt wired up. Well we turned it off adn wired the vtec solenoid and the car wouldnt start at all. It threw code 15 (ignition signal failure or something like that). We disconnected the vtec solenoid again and the car still wouldnt start and threw both 21 and 15.

Upon pulling a plug adn checking.. there was no spark.

Do you think the coil is fried or is it more serious than that? We honestly dont trust any shop around here because a local shop is who put the motor in to begin with. The wiring is a nightmare and we had to hardwire the distributor in.

ALso, what car do you tell parts departments when ordering replacement parts for a 1991 jdm b16a??

hmm... it sounds like your coil is fried... check the ground.... or just replace it... did you run it with the spark plugs out without touching ground...???

my thought was the coil also... I dotn have alot of experience with ignition issues and was not sure if its any different on this old of a car. We pulled a plug and there was no spark.

Anyone else?

coil or ignitor (Ignition control Module). Im going through the same thing kinda now. I would replace the coil and see if that helps. If it doesn't then just return the coil. Try swapping out another ICM from a car that works or a junk yard. just make sure its OBD0. the ICM is like 250 brand new, so try other options before considering a new one. But this is probably where your problem lies. Coil and ICM effect one another so sometimes once one goes bad the other will too. i replaced just the coil after swapping out my ICM with another and everything starts now. If only i could fix the other problems haha hope this helps keep us posted on ur progress
