Default Throttle cable slack

I've read on here about taking up the slack on the throttle cable. What benefits do I get by taking up the slack. Logically thinking about it, I can only realize any benefit to throttle response would be from a stand still. If anyone has any input let me know to see if this is worth my while.
Thanks

If your slack is too much, you won't reach WOT (wide open throttle) when you press your pedal all the way in!!! So you won't go as fast as your car actually could go......

be careful not to over tighten the cable though, this could stretch or permanently damage it... just take up the slack, dont get it too taught
