Details on 5th-gen 'noise cancelling' stereo?
Hello to everyone, this is my first time in the Prelude forum. I read something that the 5th-generation (97-2001) Preludes had some sort of stereo that used a microphore to cancel noise.
Can anyone elaborate on this system and how it works? I know the Prelude has always offered some pretty high-tech stuff, so any light you can shed on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think you mean the AFBS (Acoustic Feedback System). There are little microphones mounted on the back of the stock rear speakers, and a little processor back there as well that modifies the signal depending on the input from the mic's. If you're upgrading speakers in the back, you want to bypass the whole system & use signal coming straight from the head-unit or amp.

What is the purpose in modifying the signal? Does this help to cancel out road noise? I'm lost on this one.

Okay so it is noise-cancelling, but not in the same sense.
I did some more research and found out that it also automatically increases volume depending on cabin noise.
Thanks for the replies.

I tried replacing my six by nines with aftermarket ones. I removed the components for the feedback system but the speakers still dont work. I called a honda dealer and they told me i would also need an aftermarket deck. They must be full of you know what. How do you bypass this?
Just make sure you're using the signal coming straight from the head-unit, and it will work.
Although honestly, I took the rear 6x9's out completely & spent a little more money on the front components - the sound quality & staging is way better that way.
