Track pads and street pads on same rotors?
I have been using Ultimates/AEMs on Brembo OEs for about 1.5 years or so, without issue. Thursday, I bedded a front set of Carbotech XP8s (left AEMs on the rear) on these same rotors and did the NASA track day at Mid-Ohio.
Though the brakes were awesome, I'm obviously not going to use XP8s on the street as discouraged by every person I've asked. So, I'll be putting the Ultimates back on. when another track day comes up in a month or so, I'll put the XP8s on.
I need to re-bed each set of pads everytime I change them, correct?
Are there any issues with using a single set of rotors for both duties, and is it only a matter of conveinience (or safety/performace)? If I really should use a dedicated set of rotors, then I'll buy some.
thanks

i have been rocking the autozone rotors with ultimates as my street pads and xp8's as my track pads. after the initial bedding of the xp8's, they work great without rebedding even after swapping the ultimates back in. i'm no expert, but through my experience, i'm having 0 problems with this arrangement.
I would suggest spending $50 for some Autozone rotors to use as a dedicated track set. While it is definitely possible to use one set for both pads, you run a much greater risk of obtaining uneven pad deposits...which I have encountered. In the money-hungry world of racing, HPDE, etc... I think it is worth spending an extra $50 for some dedicated rotors.
So opinions on both sides...$50 isn't really that much, and may be worth avoiding the inconveinience (and lovely smell) of bedding in the XP8s.
Anyone has a price on the Cobalt rotors? They're supposeldy between the Brembos and Autozones. Of course using Cobalt rotors with Carbotech pads may result in the complete failure of my braking system for no reason other than they refuse to work together.

Yeah, at $50 even I'm not too cheap to get some Autozones. They still have the lifetime warrantee, correct? I know they do with axles (which I've benefitted from).

My Wearever rotors came with 1yr just this past week. Also, whe I posed him the same question, Larry from Carbotech said I'd be fine as long as I lightly sanded the rotor after each pad switch. I've been doing it, but it's kinda a pain in the ***, you might as well get an extra set of rotors.

While this is a common recommendation, I have found that sanding dosent do much of a damn thing. I even went out and got the fancy garnet paper. :shrugs:

I've been running track stuff since 1999 and have not had any issue using the same rotors with both the track and the street pads. I'm in a Miata, so maybe that makes a difference, but I've never had a problem. Might work for you, might not. 2 options:
(1) try it, it works, you save $50
(2) try it, it doesn't work, you spend $100 for 2 sets (street + track)
Perhaps a gamble either way.

Hmmm...one thing I like less than spending $50, is spending $100.
I'll probably pick up a set of Autozones, then. The deciding factor: I'll have a backup set of rotors in case I destroy them on track.
Side question: what is everyone running on the rear? I'm thinking Ultimates.

I use panther + in front and ultimates in the back. I've been happy with them although I think I'm going to go to Panther + all around and start using the XP8's on the track when I finish killing my current front pads.
