weak spark in 88 civic lx
my 88 lx had problems starting the other day, but i usually got it going after a few tries. but by the end of the day, it wouldnt start at all. so i pulled a plug and held it near a good ground to check for a spark and it was weak. by weak i mean it didnt fire regularly while turn the motor over and when i did see an arch it literally appeared weaker than it should. to me that says something in the distributor is bad, what would it be though? the coil or the ignitor? i went to go buy these two parts at the parts store and my friend there said he's never sold 1 honda coil in 6 years of working there. thus he didnt think that was the problem. but i dont know....any suggestions?
i dont know what to tell ya but i had the same problem, then i took the head and found hella bad stuff. three burnt up valves and cylinders 2&3 where just as shiney as brand new and 1&4 were jet black. Not saying this is your problem , but thats what happend to me
i fixed it....it wasnt that the fuel pump wasnt getting power, it was that it wasnt getting power when the key was in the on position....changed ignition switch fixed it.....weak spark was because of the distributor cap....changed it and its strong again.
